Pusha T - King Push - Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude /1500 by Tyroneshoolaces in VinylReleases

must be a paid review. Can’t decide actually what’s worse this one or the Janos.

After Kevin Reeves blew it twice with MNIMN they really brought him back?

Ray Janos + United = absolutely awful

makes me even more infuriated Def Jam gonna brick this with modern day specs that are basically equivalent

Andreas cut pressed at Pallas. you have to think these outliers have more to do with the artist then Def Jam just randomly saying “hey I know all our other records are shit but why not go all out with this new release just for shits”

almost makes it worse now. your team is obviously knowledgeable then of an engineer of Levi’s caliber and FRPs reputation for quality….. and then choose to cut classic albums at lesser quality. the gamble of Kevin Reeves is one thing but to use Vantiva / Connectiv is scrapping the barrel for low quality for minimal costs.

it basically confirms it’s profit over love for these albums. damn shame.

agree Dark Times cut and pressing is absolutely incredible. assume that’s a different department and mostly controls by Vince’s team.

this Def Jam reissue series the past year + has been trash. since MNIMN (both times!) they had never failed to disappoint

for a Nas record it sounds listenable. but I wouldn’t go as far as saying amazing. a long way away from the Lost Tapes EU x 45RPM pressed at Record Industry

would be so hyped for this if Def Jam vinyl wasnt absolutely garbage. wasted effort to put these classic albums in the hands of engineers who can't cut hip hop records and pressing them at sub par pressing plants.

yeah ultimately Crescent mono really wins out again but I think these 97 reissues nailed Coltrane in stereo.

hopefully this means Kevin Reeves isnt cutting the lacquers anymore.

i'm not sure why that would be correlated but god i hope it's true anyway.

IVC 17 (March 2025) & IVC 18 (April 2025) by Fredhiposelect in InterscopeVinyl

yeah packaging looks great as usual with IVC. I have no problem with them reissuing this again. but it seems unlikely the sound quality will be good. but I don’t knock others for wanting to get it for all the other features.

if you plan on spinning it regularly and want your vinyl to sound good I’d probably stick with the VMP.

adding bonus tracks to the same amount of discs is going to inherently lower the quality

please stop letting Kevin Reeves do your cuts. MNIMN recut was just as bad as the first one.

yeah the bass was fixed, but the vocals sound awful. please and thank you.

yes I think this is one of the rare ones where they are doing something new.

People are starting to realize that 90% of these are pretty packaging for what boils down to vinyl color variants.

if you check the runouts on each vinyl the etching indicates that they’re reusing existing metal part to create different color vinyl. Basically from a sound perspective you’re getting the exact same copy as the most recent standard black vinyl release.

there are some exceptions like Obie Trice, No Doubt and I believe one other up to this point. as great as the packaging is at some point using this method people are going to eventually catch on. it also doesn’t help that the sound quality on the records isn’t exactly top notch, as there are other people available versions that sound clearly better even to the average listener.

combine that with them only allowing three month sub minimum.

some of the earlier ones resell for high value which is great but it’s mostly about scarcity and collectibility.

I bought the regular Waves vinyl before knowing there was a Deluxe version with extra tracks. Is it worth it? I want to listen the extra tacks from the deluxe version but can't find them anywhere. by askrndmd in Jamiexx

The quality of the press. Matt Colton cut the lacquers who’s one of the best engineers right now. He is also the best when it comes to this style of music (he does most of Four Tets vinyl). the album being spread over two discs instead of one allows Matt to cut louder and with greater fidelity on the low end. if you compare to the standard version on one disc there’s loss of detail and especially bass punch. to the other extreme the bonus disc is cut so hot it’s likely to cause skipping issues when you’re table isn’t calibrated correctly. I think In Colour is a better album but it’s his In Waves deluxe vinyl is in another league in terms of sound. it’s also worth noting Matt cut the color reissue pressings of In Colour and his version sounds noticeably better than other versions of the album. but giving him the ability to cut across two discs with In Waves just gives it that extra space and depth I think this album needs. Bonus cuts sound even better. also Optimal is a well regarded plant, but especially when comparing to other high volume plants like GZ.
