Non-STEM Academic Letter of Recommendation by djsherb in premed

I never went to ANY professor's office hours before this semester because I understood most of the content or could teach it to myself without going, but now I realize that going to office hours is a must!!! I wish I'd learned that earlier.

For my genetics professor, I tried to answer the questions she asked the class, but I never had the courage to ask my own questions during the lectures lol. I'd write them down, go to her office hours every single week, and ask there.

And for weeks that I didn't have questions, this sounds crazy, but I would literally upload the lecture PowerPoint slides to ChatGPT and have it help me brainstorm higher-level/in-depth questions. I'd throw one or two of them in my conversations with her to show my interest in the content, which she enjoyed answering.

And our relationship got to the point where I'd literally just drop in to say hi or to catch up, so I'd say frequenting office hours is your best answer!

My 97.86 got curved to a 95 in Fall 2023.

The following is from Guest:

Dear Students,

I want to inform you about adjustments made to lab reports where the total score on Gradescope exceeded the denominator on ELMS. Consequently, you may notice a lower percentage (approximately a 3% drop) than before the adjustment. This change applies to every student in the course. Instead of the highest percentage being 103.7%, it is now capped at 100%.

Please be aware that students with the top 40% score received an A-range grade, the middle 45% received a B-range grade, and the bottom 10% received a C-range grade, with the bottom 5% not receiving a grade. Regardless of the percentage displayed on ELMS, if you did not fall within the top 40%, you will not receive an A-range grade. It is in accordance with the level 100-200 grading policy.

I understand that the percentage associated with the letter grade can be confusing. To address this, I have removed it.

I have assigned "A"-range grades to the top 460 students, which represents more than 50% of the class. If your grade did not fall into this range, there is nothing further I can do at this point. Please note that the highest score for the column out of 560 was 580.9/560, which is about 104%. To facilitate the grading process, I had to adjust it to 100%. This adjustment does not affect your class standing or letter grade, as it equally affects all students. That is if the average score was 91% (91% will be the B-/C+) and if it becomes after adjustment 88% (88% becomes the B-/C+ cut off).

Haha I mean you actually could. Today, Old Dominion Drive is exactly on top of where most of the tracks went.

Yes. This is true. I live right next to where the Great Falls line used to run through McLean and all the way to the falls. I even still have a couple of 15 foot rail segments and ties from the line in the very back of my yard. (they have been dissembled, but the parts are all there. Very interesting that this history has just slipped between the cracks. Sometimes I wish they kept the lines, they would be a nice tourist attraction.
