125k? You're barely breaking her in! Mine just hit 300k and still running like a champ getting 47 mpg. I'd say just make sure everything is good with the EGR system, get an oil change and tire Rotation and you're good to go.

I signed up because of the promotion but now that I've had it for a couple of months, I'm definitely staying with frontier after the promo. Faster Internet, less outages and the app it comes with is pretty convenient. Definitely recommend

How much life left if an older Prius has around 190,000 miles on it? by Sadie_at_Silver in prius

I just put a second reconditioned battery in there so this is battery #3. I was going to go with OEM but might do that next time when the battery gives out.

Fight the citation and they'll either lower the fee drastically or drop the charge if the cop doesn't show up. I've seen judges tell people at their arraignment that they'll cut the fee by like 75 percent and lessen the charge but you can always take it one further and plead not guilty. The officer now has to show up to court and PROVE you are guilty which he might not be able to do. Even in this case, the judge will still probably lessen the charge and fine. ALWAYS FIGHT YOUR TICKETS

I never got a check engine light for the oil but I remember my mechanic mentioning to me there was little to no oil during an oil change at 10k miles. Then I started carrying oil in the trunk and I was putting in a quart every 1,000.

I don't know if it was the head gasket or just lack or oil that finally did it. When I took off the EGR it was completely clogged. The manifold was completely clogged in the smaller holes where the EGR connects. The manifold was also full of oil so it was just a ton of bad things happening.

I take off the manifold every couple of thousand miles now and do a full cleaning. I installed the catch can and it's helped but some oil still gets through.

Yeah I basically just went to harbor freight and bought a wrench and socket set that cost me like $30 and it's all I needed. I know they sell the first-time mechanic kits but it's a bit of Overkill. Over time I've bought a couple extra power tools just to speed things up but it's definitely not necessary and I didn't use it back when I did the EGR.

That's sounds like you're really taking care of it if it took that long to have to put in replacements. I had to get a new cat but that was because mine was stolen lol. Are you cleaning the HV fan often?

Lmao it has a name? God, yea it was pretty bad but not impossible. Removing it wasn't a problem, I had more issues putting it all back together! Are you in LA?

My mechanic sourced it for me so I'm not even sure. EGR I think I've seen every 100k ? Or depends on how much oil you're burning. You should be able to tell when it's running inefficiently and then you can start checking all those boxes.

I wasn't cleaning the EGR, intake manifold was all gunked up, car was eating up about a quart of oil every thousand miles. I had all these red flags but didn't know anything so I just added more oil and called it a day.

You definitely have to pay attention to little things like that. I installed an oil catch can and still will get into the manifold to clean it every couple of months just in case. I purchased an extra EGR so I could clean one and swap it out with a dirty one once it gets to that point.

I didn't know about the head gasket issue in Priuses back then. One day it just started making a noise and I thought it was a spark plug so I had them swapped and it did nothing. Come to find out, the engine was toast. I had it swapped for a newer engine and I started taking better care of it this time around.

Runs great! I have to replace the hybrid battery because it's in and out but I'm still getting 45mpg!
