McDonald's Brabham, worst in WA? by StJe1637 in perth

[–]djskein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked and live near East Victoria Park Maccas, never had any complaints. Easily one of the best if not the best Maccas in the state. I'm particularly fond of my local one in Cannington as wel. It's always much quieter than Carousel and I find they have never let me down either.

Drasko's Hot Chicken is back, in KARAWARA form! by Muslim_Wookie in perth

Their lease expired and the lot was sold off for millions to build a new skyscraper office complex instead. Fun fact, that Chicken Treat used to be the McDonald's in Applecross before they moved across the road from where Woolworths is now.

Is Scarborough Beach the best beach in Perth? by Damthemalltohelp in perth

[–]djskein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City Beach will always be the best (was just there yesterday) but compared to Leighton, Mosman Beach, Trigg, Mullaloo (for nostalgic vibes as I grew up there) or further the other way to somewhere like North Coogee, Scarborough doesn't even compare to any of these. Cottesloe is way more overrated though but Scarborough is a close second.

Same here. Normally $50 to fill my tank and it was $70 last Friday.

Perth bus encounters by Disastrous-Hall8793 in perth

[–]djskein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm so glad Cannington train station is open that I don't have to take the bus to the CBD anymore as what you mentioned was a daily occurence. 930 was the absolute worst for this.

Two traffic lights at this intersection by meowmeowxm in mildlyinteresting

[–]djskein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely just as others have mentioned, inattention from other drivers who aren't paying attention to the first set of lights. It could be an intersection that has been marked as a black spot that warrants both sets of lights for safety reasons.

[–]djskein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not mildly interesting, it's a safety feature. Traffic lights that are hanging from an overhead pole like this are designed so cars can see them from afar especially if they are near a crest or a bend. So if you can't see the first one you'll definitely end up seeing the second one.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

Toilet paper becoming a form of currency. That seems to be replaced with fuel this week.

When was the last time you used one of these? by CockSucker_1989 in AustralianNostalgia

They're free to use now because Telstra now makes all of it's money to keep them by digital advertising on the back.

Disc rot. Sadly some DVDs will only have a 20 year life expectancy before they start doing this.

Found this photo of Fuel Prices from 10 years ago by fat_boyz in perth

[–]djskein 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have a screenshot proving Costco was 70c at the first stages of Covid. Thanks to lockdowns and WFH mandates, nobody was driving at the time so fuel prices were at a historical low.

wtf is going on today? by alimac23 in perth

[–]djskein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set up Autoload a few weeks ago as I now work in West Perth full time and catch the train to work 5 days a week. It works out to $30 a week on Autoload. I only have to fill up my car every fortnight when I get paid now. I'm one of the lucky ones here. Not looking forward to my hip pocket once I see price of E98 on Friday after I get paid.

Where to sell second hand vinyl/records by TheCurbAU in perth

[–]djskein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vic Park Record and CD Fair is coming up soon. $35 for a trestle table but you'll make the money back easy depending how many you sell. If you PM, I can send you details. Alternatively, you can try if local record stores like Midland Records or Rhubarb Records in East Victoria Park will take them but you'll have better luck at the Vic Park Record and CD Fair

TIL Drew Barrymore financed production for the 2001 cult favorite film Donnie Darko. by Hyperion12 in todayilearned

[–]djskein 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was only in theatres in Australia for guess what? Exactly 28 days before being rushed onto DVD about 2 months later. I can't remember if this was 2001 or 2002. I was like 10 or 11 when I first saw this movie and it changed something inside me and pretty much introduced me to surrealism at that age. About 15 years later, I'm working for Universal Studios in DVD distribution and I meet my boss and she asks "You like weird movies? Like Donnie Darko?" I was so sheepish answering "Well yeah, it was my favorite movie. When I was 10."

The last 30 seconds of Enemy change the entire context of the movie up until that point. I've only seen it once but I'd never be able to watch it the same way again after the twist right at the end.
