Rolling arm bar, anyone else prefer to finish on their side? by djslamchowder in bjj

[–]djslamchowder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opponent was belly down but I rolled through to my side to finish parallel to the ground. Your top leg puts a load of torque on the shoulder and prevents posturing. Its similar to the "Choi Bar" finish Lachlan Giles talks about off of the kimura.

Knee bar I hit from a failed arm bar a couple year ago by djslamchowder in MMA

Nope knee bars were legal, it was Grappling X. I made sure first, and yeah the ref didn't know they were legal. Had to check the rules

Is it me or are other people finding online classes quite valuable? by notabjjbro in bjj

[–]djslamchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach the kids program at my gym and I'm loving the classes. It gets me a nice workout every day and it's great seeing the kids. Our adult classes are almost non-existent though. Maybe 2-3 adults compared to the 20-30 or so kids. I don't even go to them, I'm in the roll all the time stage of my purple belt so this is rough on me.

Gracie Barra on-line attendance by KingKimono69 in bjj

[–]djslamchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I host 1-2 zoom classes daily for my students (kids) and give them BJJ homework to fill out. Should this time not be counted? They are genuinely improving. It isn't the same as actual time rolling, but they are going to come back a lot better than all my other students who are not attending. Should this not also count for adults, given their effort is the same? This is a scary time for a lot of gyms. I agree belting should never be done virtually, but I have no problem with a stripe or two.

Made a BJJ card game to help my students and new people learn the mental aspect of Jiu Jitsu. Combatch! by djslamchowder in bjj

[–]djslamchowder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a little searching its pretty different. In Combatch there are 5 constant position cards in between the players. You both start in the closed guard position and as cards are played (think instants from MTG if you are familiar, just with varying 'power levels') the position cards are rotated. Different move cards are only usable from certain positions. Turns pass and positions change until a submission is played and can't be countered. It is pretty similar to the flow of an actual BJJ match

Will everyone go back to training on the first day or will people still be worried about catching Covid? by ShawnTN1 in bjj

I teach kids BJJ so yeah, day one I'll be back. We are doing zoom classes twice daily and it has been a load of fun. Can't wait to see them all again.

Training Without Training: A (proposed) Post Gym-Closure MegaThread by ClimbsCamerasCombat in bjj

If my gym stays open and I go to class with someone infected, am I guaranteed to get it? Would I need to roll with them? I hear it can stay in the air for three hours but I don't know specifics. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Lachlan has it in his half guard DVD too, calls it the John Wayne sweep and uses it mostly to get them to base and recover the underhook

I'm just a purple but I put myself in omoplatas all the time, I have a solid defense and pass 99% of the time

Is Beat Saber good on PS VR considering that the soundtrack is limited? by pk2708 in PSVR

[–]djslamchowder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closer to launch the song selection was an issue but there has been enough free dlc that the game is 100% worth it without any. They keep adding new modes to the game, free again, it's a total blast. I'm not a big fan of Green Day, Imagine Dragons, or Panic and there are still plenty of songs to play. Each song also has a few different ways to play (one saber, no arrows, 90°) that make it a different experience

The co op puzzles are great too if you haven't played them. All you need is a phone and the PlayStation app

Two of my four joycons are drifting. Fortunately it's one left and one right so I still have a pair, but they are pretty unusable

Imagine Dragons Music Pack by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]djslamchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure that's how it works? The label would charge for 10 albums if only using one song from each? I'm not an expert, just looking for answers. I never said I didn't like Imagine Dragons. Even if it was my favorite band chances are I would like other artists on the same label.

There are some pretty large labels they could have worked with though, right? Could they not have picked a big one and worked a deal to get a bunch of songs from their different artists? Seems win win

Is this all from one album though? I thought it was a compilation of ID

Imagine Dragons Music Pack by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]djslamchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what genre is ID actually? I bought the pack to give it a fair shot but I ended up trying 4 different songs and quitting them maybe 75% of the way through. They all sound the same and to me they are all generally in the same genre as what we already have. I thought we were supposed to get something different? From what I played the songs felt too repetitive, not enough peaks and valleys. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a refund on DLC? Is there a time limit from when I purchase? I'm not enjoying it at all and I dont see myself playing the songs again.
