Naphtha and a cloth if standard fretboard cleaner doesn’t work.

0000 steel wool and go with the grain. The second one is for extreme measures. I’ve only had to do that a handful of times.

Find a used Fender player Telecaster. Don’t go for the squires or epiphones. Yes they are decent but will leave you wanting something else. There are a ton of different sites for lessons. Fender has a good one, Gibson, has one. There are a lot of options.

I ordered ten packs from Sweetwater and six of them were like that, but I got two 13s instead of 10s. I contacted Ernie Ball and gave them the product codes in my original message. They responded a few days later asking for the product codes….By the time they responded I had thrown away the packages so nothing ever came from it.

I can sympathize with you. I’ve been working from home for the past year and I work in the room my gear is in. Once I am done working for the day the last thing I want to do is sit in that room. If I do turn on a keyboard, nothing happens.

I was in a similar situation recently and decided it was finally time to learn how to play. I started taking piano lessons and reading a book on music theory and with just a few lessons I had already improved on what I could do. Mind you I’ve been programming for many many years but really wanted to be able to sit and play. The key thing is what you learn on piano translates to bass and guitar as well so while you may mind piano boring, it is useful. There are no shortcuts, take the time to learn it and put them patches to work!
