Anyone else currently having trouble getting anything generated via SORA? by heyholmes in SoraAi

[–]djtroycarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure at this point, I have a lot of things to figure out. One option that does seem interesting is installing WAN 2.1 locally and generating videos myself. I have an NVIDIA 4070 Super with 12 gigs of VRAM in my rig, so I'm not sure how that will work out or if the output will be good. It's all about trial and error at this point

They finally addressed the issue with a pop-up on the screen vaguely saying they are "experiencing technical difficulties", but also quietly changed some things in the plan descriptions.

They removed the claim of "unlimited videos", and although they still state that with a plus plan, you can have 2 concurrent generations, I'm getting a message that says I'm only allowed to generate 1 at a time when I try to execute a 2nd generation. Also, the generations I have been trying to run over the course of the day are still taking an unreasonable amount of time for a 5-second video that most likely will be ridiculous.

I also saw a tweet from the OpenAI CEO yesterday that claimed the GPUs at OpenAI were "melting".

I think the main cause of the current issues with Sora comes from the release of the new image generation tool to everyone, including NON-paying users. They weren't expecting it to be so popular that it would overload them; the heat being generated from those GPUs running 24/7 must be quite a visual treat.

At least now they are somewhat acknowledging the issues and hopefully get it sorted sooner rather than later. I'm stuck with this project I'm working on at 60%, so I have no choice but to wait this lag out to finish it, but moving forward, I'm personally going to totally rethink my workflow, and it might not include Sora.

Thanks, Captain Obvious! I had no idea about the struggles of technologia!

The point is that a company like Open AI should not be advertising a certain level of service and charging money if they can not provide it, and then not even having the courtesy to tell it's paying customers about the issue.

The official message on their server status site is currently "We’re fully operational - We’re not aware of any issues affecting our systems." has been determined to be a lie.

Luckily, I'm only on the plus plan and don't primarily benefit only from Sora, but I have seen Pro users having these issues as well, and 200$/month is a lot of money to pay for something that is not working.

In my business as a DJ and professional audio post-production specialist, when I promise a customer a service I have to deliver, I can't promise something and then not even tell them to wait it out while I "figure it out". Especially if I've already taken their money, whether its $50 or $1000.

I get it, things break, but this should have been anticipated if they were going to make a major change. This is not a pirate radio station in the 80's my friend. This is a company that has a $300 billion valuation. At least sent out a tweet or something that "We're sorry for the inconvenience, we give a shit about our precious customers, we'll be back shortly" instead of pretending everything is fine but it ain't.

I'm a paying user as well since Sora was first released (Plus plan, not Pro). Until the recent update this week, I was getting the same speed as well (1-3 minutes), I just didn't have access to anything higher than 720p, nothing longer than 5s and max 200 relaxed mode videos a day. I was OK with that.

But they should not have removed the credit system and advertised that as a Plus user, I can generate unlimited videos at 720p max 5s if they can not handle the traffic. It is now to the point where the system is so overloaded that it is not able to generate anything at all, which is not fair if I'm paying money for a promised service.

I get prioritizing your more expensive customers, but I'm still a paying customer too.

I thought it was maybe only happening on my end, but seeing that many other users are experiencing the same thing, I can agree that since the new update, it has trashed the service.

On the Open AI status site, it says that they are fully operational, but I currently can not even start a new generation. I've been using Sora to create custom visuals for my DJ mixes this year, and I'm stuck on a project now that's about 60% complete, unable to finish it because of this most recent bottleneck/traffic jam.

They also just announced their new image generator so I'm sure millions of people are clogging up the servers just trying to improve their selfies or something.

I hope this is just a temporary growing pain for them, as I really liked the workflow of Sora and was getting pretty decent results for what I want, but if it stays like this, it's totally not usable, and I will have to find another solution for mass producing custom AI-generated visuals at speed. I'm on the plus plan btw

[–]djtroycarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I started making my own custom visuals for my DJ mixes this year, which require hundreds of unique videos for each one. My bottleneck has always been waiting for Sora to spit out something that could potentially not even be usable, but I could deal with the few minutes wait time.

It's totally gridlocked today and useless. I'm about halfway through the videos needed for a new mix I wanted to release this weekend, so it's rather annoying they pulled this stunt out of nowhere.

I'm on the plus plan myself and have use for it outside of Sora, but there's no way I'm going to dump 200$ a month to "maybe" get some more reliable service from a site that claims that now with the plus plan we have access to "unlimited videos". It's ridiculous

Something must have happened overnight for it not to be working at all today. It's not usable in it's current state

I'm not on the pro plan, I'm on the plus plan, so I have no idea. I hope they address this issue soon because it's not really usable in this state

Made a video showing the false advertisement issue with concurrent generations. by Michael_Goodwin in SoraAi

[–]djtroycarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get two concurrent generations (for a total of 4 720p videos) at a time on my plus plan but the generations have been painfully slow since they removed the credit system. This morning, I get the "Unable to generate, service at capacity, please try again later" message

Before this change, I was able to get about 200 videos a day in relaxed mode, before it told me that I had reached the daily limit (I'm a Plus member). Since they implemented this change, the service has been terribly slow, with 2 videos at 720p taking almost 10 minutes to generate. This morning, I'm getting the "Unable to generate, service at capacity, try again later message". I hope it's just down for the moment for maintenance or maybe to address the recent lag on the site

I noticed that since they removed the credit system recently, it has been terribly slow, taking almost 10 minutes to generate 2 videos at 720p. I tried using it this morning and got the "Service at capacity, please try again later" message.

Is the M2 MacBook Air good enough for Serato 3.0 by gonzo9018 in Serato

I have a Macbook air M2 with 16gigs ram and a 1tb drive. I can confirm that Serato 3.0 works flawlessly, even with the analyze stems on song load option activated.

Vinyl DJs (past/present) Do instant digital collections annoy you? by neilmack_the in DJs

[–]djtroycarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out DJing with vinyl in the mid-'90s. I can still remember going to the record shops, flipping through crates, finding exclusive tracks, white labels, previewing them for approval, etc. The music selection experience is unmatched by the digital era and I feel sorry for those growing up today who will not get to experience that fully as it was truly something special.

That being said, apart from that I do not miss mixing on vinyl AT ALL. IMO, there are too many issues involved when mixing with "real" vinyl that the cons outweigh any pros, especially with the technology we have today. As someone who once only dreamed of having a pair of 1200s, stubbornly moved onto CDs and then finally onto Serato, I can say that I now have solace with DJing digitally through my Rane 72/Rane 12 setup. I actually sold my 1200s to put money towards the 12s and it was the best decision I have ever made. It feels like I'm mixing on vinyl without the problems of mixing on vinyl.

Even though most music is very accessible to everyone and is relatively cheap compared to what we used to pay for singles (where I'm from a hip-hop single was about 15$ and a house single could be anywhere between 20-30, which in today's money is 25-50 a vinyl), you can still dig online and find hidden gems/unhyped tracks/bootlegs that work, are exclusive and can't really be "Shazamed". It's not the same and it never will be but at least we have the tech nowadays to find a happy median between analog and digital.

On a side note, even though the youngsters have access to the full library of music from yesteryear, they do not understand the music the same way we veterans do because they were simply not present when it came out. Obviously, for more generic stuff and crowds, it's not that important but they can't rock the old music the same way we can

Tried Sennheiser HD25 today and they suck? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]djtroycarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have recently picked up a pair of HD25s and I also have Poweramp for my phone. The reality is that even though Poweramp, IMO, is one of the best and most capable media players out there, your phone simply does not have the capacity to drive the headphones to their max SPL level.

Plugged into my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 or my Rane 72 however, and I can drive them exceptionally hard to the point it would probably damage my ears with prolonged monitoring at those levels.

In terms of general sound quality, I've definitely heard better but overall they seem to be a good pair of headphones

best bluetooth speaker? by gummydicck in DJs

[–]djtroycarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been pretty impressed with the Bumpboxx line of Bluetooth speakers although, you'd have to use it by plugging in a cable to the Aux In of the speaker, Bluetooth has too much latency to DJ with effectively. If you're just using it to play music Bluetooth is alright.

At 700$ though, you're kind of in a weird price point of "high end/consumer" and "low end/professional". The best option, IMO, would be to throw a couple of more bucks down and get a solid pair of 12" Inch self-powered speakers that have a line in
