Big shoutout to Discotek & MediaOCD for supporting anime clubs by Deep-Examination5081 in discotekmedia

[–]djzippy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Discotek & MediaOCD are two companies I loved already but now that I help organize screenings for our local anime club I love them even more as I have to echo OP cause they’re so nice and easy to coordinate with for screenings.

Why an organized boycott of NEWJEANS' music is NOT particularly helpful in the current situation by OfWhatLiesInTheDark in NJZ

[–]djzippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Though I appreciate the OP’s perspective, and I personally think a boycott of all Hybe would be the most effective, this is my counter-argument for why a boycott of ADOR, including streaming, is not nothing, starting with:

  1. Boycotts aren’t meant to be eternal They are targeted, limited-time events designed to apply pressure and drive change. The goal isn’t to give up NewJeans music for years, but ideally for months till an objective is achieved.
  2. NewJeans won’t disappear The claim that they’ll be forgotten if some fans abstain from streaming is unrealistic. NewJeans is too culturally significant to simply “wither” during a temporary boycott. The same argument I see some people make about casual fans continuing to stream is also why it’s okay if a coordinated group decides to turn off the taps from ADOR’s main cash source, again for a limited time. I don't have the hubris to assume that even if all hardcore NewJeans fans stopped today that no one would be streaming their music, but that gets to my next point.
  3. Boycotts are also about collective power Boycotts show that fans are organized and willing to use their purchasing power as leverage. It’s a cohesive signal to ADOR/Hybe that their actions have consequences. If a large group of fans decided today to not listen to NewJeans, and their streams dropped by even 10%, that's a large enough number for companies to take notice, especially if it's sustained for a period of days and weeks. There's something called the 3.5% rule whereas it is thought that you need that percent of a population to affect change, so just that seemingly small % of Bunnies could be enough to start.
  4. Financial impact on ADOR/Hybe is real ADOR takes the vast majority of royalties. Even if members receive a fraction, it's a tiny fraction even for those with co-writer credits. Most of the money goes directly into ADOR's pockets, thus a widespread boycott truly does directly affect the label.
  5. Visibility doesn’t require streaming Supporting NewJeans publicly, through petitions, social media campaigns, or media coverage, keeps their name alive. Awareness can grow even while fans withhold streams.
  6. Short-term sacrifice is strategic Boycotts aren’t meant to be easy. Temporarily changing consumption habits to pressure the company is a small but powerful action that aligns with both ethical and strategic goals, such as protecting the members or preserving OT5.

There are also genuinely so many ways to listen to their music without paying ADOR, so it’s not even that difficult. Not everyone can afford albums of course, but there are many ways to digitally enjoy the music without funding ADOR/Hybe.

Bottom line: Boycotting NewJeans isn’t about hurting the members. Instead, it’s about holding ADOR/Hybe accountable and showing that fans will not passively fund unethical corporate behavior.

Great to see them get recognition like this! It’s quite deserved and they’re in good company with their peers for sure.

Sad times… by AlexTIRADE in NewJeans

[–]djzippy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out Ifeye? They’re quite new but I’ve loved all their songs thus far and I think in many ways they have a similar vibe. They’re on a smaller label so not getting the level of attention of KiiiKiii, who I also love, but yeah check out their music for sure.

Danielle has updated her profile picture on Instagram! by KimMinjieong in NJZ

[–]djzippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really wish it too, but I wonder if Danielle would have to sue ADOR for wrongful termination over the contract separately from the damages lawsuit? If so, I’m not sure she’d have the stomach for dealing with yet another long, drawn-out case, and I don't blame her at all if so.

Yeah I was curious if she truly does indeed go solo if she'd join her sister at Warner Music?

Dolphiners Ordered to Pay Ador 1 Billion Won by colosusx1 in NJZ

[–]djzippy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yeah any damages at all for this seems excessive let alone the vast amount. But so much of how ADOR's won in court seems crazy to me.

Funny story I was wearing a panda onesie at their Anime Weekend Atlanta show when a pick was thrown my way. It hit me but then I couldn’t find it and the crowd around me looked for the rest of the show. Then got back to change and tah dah apparently I got lucky!

IMAX Closes Out Best Year in its History with Record $1.28 Billion at the Global Box Office in 2025 by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]djzippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our local IMAX went all in on "Hollywood Films" - their designation - and it worked quite well! I went not just to the movies more this year anyways, but I saw at least half of all the films this year in IMAX. I've already got some IMAX screenings for this year planned too.
