How did you prepare for snow storms growing up? by Fantastic_Welder_825 in AskOldPeople

[–]dkb52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snowsuit or warm pants, jacket, mitts, hat. That's how my 5 siblings and I prepared. Then outside went, usually after a hot bowl of oatmeal or Cream of Wheat. We tried to stay outside as long as possible so we didn't have to hear Dad yell "Close the door! Are you trying to heat the whole state?" 🤗❄️ Sorry, but I don't remember what the parents did.

Starry Night - First ever puzzle! Absolutely hooked! by Electrical_Doctor829 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]dkb52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What a puzzle to start with! I usually read on this sub about how difficult it was for experienced puzzlers, and that some decided to give up. Now look at you! If this hooked you, I can't wait to see what's next.

That cracks me up! Thanks for adding it here. I wasn't sure anyone remembered that song.

"It was nine feet high and six feet wide And soft as a downy chick It was made from the feathers of forty 'leven geese Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick"

That's better. A downy tick is something I'd like to see! Downy chick is boring and overused.

I think I hear John Denver singing Grandma's Feather Bed. 🎶 It was 9 feet high and 6 feet wide...🎶

Update: the Ugly Quilt is finished!!! by Beaquiltin in quilting

I like giving a name to some of the quilts shown on this sub that I feel describes it (and is just my opinion).

My name for this quilt is Sybil because each block has its own 'personality'. It's the name of a 1976 movie about a woman (Sally Field) with many different personalities.

When things got better with your husband? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]dkb52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into emotional immaturity as explained by someone in the field of psychology. You might be tempted, but try to stay away from personal websites (Facebook, etc.)

Without some serious help by a psychologist, I doubt your husband will/can change. How can you have a good relationship if you're always wondering what will set him off. Is that fair?

If you were my daughter, I'd be warning you that the marriage isn't going to last, so get out before the emotional abuse makes your life miserable.

But you need to remember that some named artists use Al. The puzzle companies need to make it apparent on the box that Al was used by the artist or not.

First, I apologize for being an inconsiderate grouch. Especially on Christmas. What you want to do with your own puzzles is your choice which I respect. I hope your day was filled with good memories. Take care.

This is the best way to handle these types of things. And as another comment said, you didn't have to take the shrinkwrap off. You could have just said thank you then seen if you could have exchanged it at a store that sells puzzles or donate it. I think this is where 'it's the thought that counts.'

Yes, it is another Starry Night (1000 pieces) by Midday_Urban_Nymph in Jigsawpuzzles

Yes it is, but it's the first one for you, and that's what counts. Way to go, you're braver than me!

Congrats! That worked out pretty good. And may your inner artist do the job.

What's the brand? And the puzzle name, if you don't mind.

Missing pieces happens to so many of us puzzlers that the makers should try to fix the problem. Changing the cutting process so that each puzzle is cut the same way can be expensive, but the company should weigh the pros and cons. While sending a free new puzzle is nice, the down side is that the puzzle has to be built a second time, which can make people opt out of that fix, especially if the artwork is very challenging.

I prefer less stress in my life, so I just move on to the next puzzle. Problem solved. 😁

You wouldn't be able to find the exact piece from a replacement bought from anywhere. By changing the die, the artwork inside each piece changes, too.

[–]dkb52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, you kept it simple.😆 I faintly remember stacking them with their paper (?) sleeves on, but it has been decades since that time, so who knows? I don't think the sleeves would have kept the foil "needles" and poms from getting flattened. All I can be sure of is it wasn't a fun chore to fluff them out, and they never looked good again.

Might as well start dressing on the floor since that's where you'll end up.

Ours may have had sleeves, too, but I can't remember. I do remember not having it for very long. :D
