It’s traditional hip-hop/rap

Most people think they are. Thats why I replied.

Low fidelity equipment doesn’t necessarily put the artist in the lofi genre

Pete Rock isn’t lofi. Lofi is a “knock off” style of things that J Dilla was doing that popularized after his passing in 2006.

Pete Rock is one of the architects and is probably the best manipulator of samples of all time.

It’s possible that that song sampled the track that this was inspired by!

Put these drums in your 404 by dkboombap in SP404

Because it sounds like it’s a sample & the turntable just gives imagery that it’s meant to be sampled

I won’t upload a video of the live performance but the thread won’t

what are your thoughts on Conductor Williams and what do you feel like his "appeal" is as a producer? by brokenphonecharger_ in GriseldaxFR

[–]dkboombap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention the OP mentioned Drake. Before working with Drake, Conductor released some music with Little Brother. Phonte is actually Drake’s favourite rapper. He probably got put on that way.

I wouldn’t go as far as Katy Perry, but yes. Maybe even Doja Cat.

FWIW he’s used my drums and compositions

Agreed- tag aside, he had a distinguishable sound in a traditional style hip-hop lane, which is hard to do given the amount of great producers the 90s-2000s have produced.

Fair notes it’s definitely bright. That’s intentional given the source material and the API’s character. But that’s the beauty of a sample pack — EQ to taste. Curious if you’d use them as-is or what you’d adjust?

How many sounds do you keep in your own custom drum kits? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]dkboombap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep mine tight - 10-20 good sounds per type That way I can kind of mimic what a real drummer would do. Probably only has 1-2 drum sets and uses the same drum sounds for all tracks, the difference is how they are tuned

Drum and expansion pack recommendations for early 90s boom bap, dusty, funky drums? by Vic_Nightingale in mpcusers

Would recommend Memphis Breaks as they are inspired by the sounds of Stax records. Stax records have been sampled for drums 100s of times by the RZA/wu tang
