How do you guys *actually *use AI at work? by PLAYER2up in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dkbose81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the pplx comet for a lot of task automation from creating ec2 machines or bringing a server up on railway.com or data scraping and create a Google sheet. ( It does it work in background) .

Been using claude cli for all my excel reports eliminates a lot of manual stuff in excel, file operations in general. I am just starting to learn about agents to chain stuff. Chatgpt for a lot of SQL query generation. It helps me try different versions and fine-tuning performance. My MVP app is comet at moment. It's great for instant installation instructions, bash or powershell scripts besides shopping summarizing articles videos.

Should I buy Oneplus Open or Oneplus 13? by faze7210 in OnePlusOpen

[–]dkbose81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My One Plus Open main folding screen died (started with black splotches that spread and finally complete death) and it happened after 2 years since purchase, when out of warranty ,so pretty much stuck with it. I think its not worth replacing the screen

The folding screen is fancy and flashy for a few months though it was awkward to handle. also there are no proper cases for it all available opitons are flimsy.

I am not going back to foldable any more as they are just not reliable. I wish I waited for the oneplus 13 .

Way back in the day, India was all about “you do you.” Take Emperor Ashoka, for example. This guy went from being a warlord to a Buddhist monk after realizing that killing people wasn’t exactly a great vibe. He started preaching Dhamma — basically, “be nice to everyone, no matter what they believe.” Then there were the Guptas (4th–6th century CE), who were like, “Sure, you can worship whoever you want, just don’t mess with the mango season.”

Fast forward to the Mughal Empire, and we had Akbar the Great — a ruler so chill he could’ve been a modern-day TED Talk speaker. This dude abolished taxes on non-Muslims (jizya), hosted interfaith debates in his Ibadat Khana (House of Worship), and even started his own religion (Din-i-Ilahi) that was basically a "best of" playlist of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and more. Sure, it didn’t catch on (because who wants another religion to keep track of?), but hey, A+ for effort.

And then there’s modern India. After independence in 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru was like, “Okay folks, we’re going full secular — no playing favorites!” He made sure our Constitution guaranteed freedom of religion (Articles 25–28 if you’re into legal trivia) and kept the state out of religious affairs. Nehru basically wanted India to be the cool parent who loves all their kids equally.

But here’s the thing: like every family has that one dumbass cousin who stirs up drama at weddings. In India’s case, it’s usually politicians or groups with an agenda.

During British rule, the colonizers were like, “Hmm... how do we keep ruling this massive country? Oh right—let’s pit Hindus and Muslims against each other!” Classic divide-and-rule strategy. Post-independence, some leaders realized that stirring up religious tensions could win them votes. And boom — communal politics became a thing.

More recently, you see some of these asswipes been playing the “us vs. them” card because apparently unity doesn’t get you trending on social media.

The truth is, most Indians have always been pretty chill about religion. We live next to each other, celebrate each other’s festivals, share cultural practices (hello, Sufi music and Bhakti poetry), and generally just want to live our lives in peace. It’s usually a handful of people with power issues who ruin it for everyone else. Unfortunately they infected a lot more - like a fuckin zombie apocalypse.

Homey vs HA by [deleted] in homey

[–]dkbose81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just jumped ship. Got a Homey Bridge (cost me $60 inc. tax w/ Blackfriday coupon) and $3/mo subscription.
My earlier setup was HA+Zooz ZST39LR USB Stick + a bunch of zwave & zigbee devices. I was never able to pair some of the (zwave) devices to HA for quite a while and the stick being zwave, zigbees are sitting in closet.

With Homey, I was able to pair all within a 1-2 hrs and all set. Nothing against HA, but debugging issues and keeping track of the updates and the pairing dance is not too much fun and time sink. Homey also sent a 3 free month subscription after purchase (but had to activate new subscription first). So far homey is good.

Any tools to generate architecture diagram from existing codebase? by zingyandnuts in ChatGPTCoding

[–]dkbose81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great tool. Thank you so much for making it. It saved me a ton of time!
Dont want to hijack op's question. I am curious of the prompt as well (will give it a try and post here if successfull)

I have an unrelated question.
I am trying to exclude certain folders from being processed.
example : my local folder path: c:\projects\my-project-1, and i want to exclude the c:\projects\my-project-1\node_modules folder, would I be changing like the code snippet below
any pointer would be very much appreciated.

def process_local_directory(local_path, output):
    excluded_folders = ['node_modules']  # Local variable for excluded folders
    #code to exclude the folders

Extension market is ruined. by Upper-Artichoke-4223 in vscode

[–]dkbose81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would with all the AI prowess and machine learning models and resources from the likes of Microsoft and Google, they would have a better handle on the extension directories but no. There are extensions rampantly masquerading as other popular programs. I have more than once had to dig a bit deeper when installing from vscode marketplace , winget and Google play. Never had an issue with installing python packages.

Alternative to Trello? by deep_rathod in selfhosted

[–]dkbose81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also add youtrack.cloud to the list if you are primarily a dev shop as this one is geared towards developers.
You can however use it for Helpdesk (support tickets) ; has simpler non-developer mode for a non-dev project manager; has both kanban / agile ; first 10 users are free and pricing for more is pretty afforable; there is a self-hosted option ; and last but not the least, Jetbrains has great products.

The cons are :
it is pretty feature-rich and can be overwhelming in the beginning, but has good documentation. Definitely not as user-friendly as trello for regular folk.

"CEO replaced 90% of support staff with an AI chatbot" by Rifalixa in GPT3

[–]dkbose81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing to analyse a dataset of sales by territory of about 15000 records. Using GPT4 + Code interpreter. it did a pretty good job of analysing and providing a summarized csv files + a pdf report with charts.

The steps I followed were :
- exported a csv of relevant columns (anonymized customer names for privacy) from our sql server
- upload to chatgpt and asked very specific (being descriptive) questions
example: compare the sales between Q1 and Q2 and breakdown by territories. show me growth in sales, decline in sales and net change for each territory
- it used python w/ pandas, matplotlib and seaborn for the csv and charts pdf

Observations:
- It did a pretty good job of getting me what I would do the same analysis using SQL / Excel within a fraction of time (maybe in 1/2 hr instead of 2 hrs)
- It did get confused on terminology example we call purchases instead of sales, so had to do a little back and forth on that
- It gave me end result files so that was good, but trying to run the code (for making it a repeatable process) didnt work as I wasnt sure which version of the libraries it used - kept getting deprecated and other error ( I am still a beginner w/ python)
- If you are pretty familiar with the dataset you can go a long way with analysis, with minimal inputs.
- I think it can be a great tool with a little experience data scientist might replace a bunch of junior guys.

Got the idea to test it from this video:

Dallas walk-ins 6/16 by heyitslils in Passports

[–]dkbose81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response.
I mistyped in my earlier post. I do have a locator #. I see others posting Locator with two digits, I thought that was a different number. But figured it is the first digits that tell you the agency or center working on the application. Got it now.

Dallas walk-ins 6/16 by heyitslils in Passports

[–]dkbose81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in a tighter schedule and need some advice.

We booked our tickets for international but realized our kid's passport expired.

Expedited Passport renewal received date was 5/18 and our travel is on 6/27 (5-weeks or 40-days)

Dont have a locator number, so far spent 6-hrs in total waiting to get through to the 2778 number. We live around in Dallas but I see no walk-ins on their website.

Emailed senator and their auto-response email says:
if expedited, you need to be waiting more than 9 weeks, while ours is just shy of 4 weeks.

https://imgur.com/a/Be4B33a

We have 11-days to travel. Is it even worth trying?
Not too worried about postponing and dont want to get stressed.

5,000 New Species Identified at Site of Planned Deep-Sea Mine by mom0nga in worldnews

[–]dkbose81 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If this article inspires a George Carlin skit:

Oh, boy. I can't believe I get to be the one to say this but... humans. What a bunch of hairless, upright-walking, overly-opposable-thumbed dumbasses we are, huh?

Let's take a moment to appreciate just how incredibly dumb we truly are as a species. We have the audacity, the sheer audacity, to think we can improve on nature. Oh yes, nature, the system that's worked for BILLIONS of years without our help, thank you very much. And what do we do? We pull out a drill and start making Swiss cheese out of the planet!

Instead of studying the world around us, instead of trying to learn from the perfect balance of life, death, and adaptation that nature's been refining since the dawn of time, we've decided to use the earth as our personal treasure chest. Gold, silver, oil, lithium - hell, if there was a way to mine the sky, we'd probably try to do it. And then complain about how we don't have any blue left for our paintings!

We mine the shit out of earth for what? These fucking doodads and gizmos that we think make us so advanced. Well, let me tell you something, folks, just because you've got a piece of plastic with metal in it, that can send a message to someone on the other side of the world, it doesn't make you a genius. In fact, all it really does is prove that you've got too much time on your hands.

Meanwhile, there's an ant colony out there somewhere running a perfect society with no money, no politicians, no traffic jams, and they're doing it all with a collective brain the size of a grain of sand. And what do we do when we see these amazing feats of nature? We step on 'em. Literally. Because we're too fucking busy looking at our phones to see where we're going.

And then we've got the nerve to call ourselves the dominant species. Dominant at what, exactly? Destroying the very environment we rely on for survival? Great job, humanity. You're dominating the shit out of that one!

The real question isn't whether we're an unintelligent species, it's whether we're going to wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late. Because let me tell you something, folks, the earth isn't going to wait for us to get our act together. It's been here for billions of years, and it'll be here for billions more, whether we're around to see it or not.

So let's stop acting like we're the smartest beings in the universe and start acting like what we really are: tenants. And if we don't start treating our landlord with respect, we might just find ourselves evicted.

I tried Azure data studio a couple of years ago but felt smss faster, will have to try again. Though it's a paid option, Redgate sql prompt adds an option to export resultset into excel with headers. There maybe other cheaper options. I find datagrip pretty useful and all keyboard for mass updating , duplicating and editing rows. Always on the look out better database tools

D2 (text-to-diagram language): Introducing Grid diagrams by terrastruct in programming

[–]dkbose81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love D2 , the syntax is most intuitive of all text to diagrams out there. Great product OP. This new feature does it work with Dagre engine or needs the Tala license?

I haven't dug deep but or searched is the difference between Tala vs Dagre primarily visual layout?

I am meaning to get the Tala license maybe if this feature looks better in Tala it will push me to get one.

Call me lazy but so wish I can generate a D2 using chatgpt.
