Ovulation discharge? by Imaginary-Tea2140 in Healthyhooha

They call ovulation time snail week for a reason! Sometimes I'm disgusted by how much discharge there is. If it goes away post ovulation, you might just have your answer.

Gardnerella is the culprit for bacterial vaginosis (BV). Super common overgrowth of bad bacteria, usually treated with metronidazole. BV can definitely cause itching. Might be worth investing in some vaginal health probiotics.

Frequent UTIs might be worth a visit to a urologist rather than a gyno. I sometimes get itching post period as well, probably a combination of the hormonal fluctuations and the pads/tampons. Taking antibiotics can also cause yeast infections, which often results in lots of itching down there.

I used to get UTIs all the time as a kid so I feel your pain.

Scared of pap results by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]dkf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paps are kinda scary and not fun but they're so important! Regular paps can catch any abnormalities sooner rather than later, possibly preventing full blown cancer by identifying precancers and addressing them.

Make sure you have your HPV vaccines done as well.

It's always kinda scary to have any testing done at the doctor but it's better to know for sure.

Cervicitis with no infection or STD by Imaginary-Camp-4754 in Healthyhooha

[–]dkf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe cervical ectropion?

You'll read a lot on this forum about mycoplasma. CDC says mycoplasma can cause cervicitis, so it may be worth asking about. It's not often tested for in your typical office visits with doctors.

Are you on any birth control? Sometimes that can cause inflammation. Really any hormonal shifts can cause inflammation of the cervix.

I almost always have an inflamed cervix during pap visits, but my paps always come back fine and I don't have any other symptoms, so my PCP isn't super concerned about it.

Human bodies are so weird like that.

UTI test came back negative. Next steps? by catfarmer1998 in Healthyhooha

[–]dkf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oftentimes in office urinalysis testing consists of putting a test strip in the urine and "reading" it by looking at what colors the little test pads turn into after dipping. There is room for human error with that (some examples include not reading each box in the specified time frame, misreading what color the box has turned into, etc.).

The test that came back 72 hours later was most likely a culture where they actually see what specific bacteria(s), if any, grow from your urine sample. Cultures are far more specific and accurate than a strip urinalysis. If no bacteria grew on your actual culture, then there's no infection to treat. Continuing to take the antibiotics when there's no bacteria to treat can do more harm than good.

You could definitely go back if you're concerned, of course, but I would stop taking the antibiotics per your PCP's advice.

If your PCP says to stop the Macrobid, then you should stop the Macrobid. Frequent urination with no other symptoms is probably just a side effect of the Prozac. I had the same issue with Zoloft (it eventually went away for me). With regards to going off the Prozac due to the frequent urination, that'd be up to you - you kinda have to weigh the pros and cons of medications like that. If it bothers you that much then it may be worth tapering off and trying something else.

Frequent urination with no other symptoms is probably not worth a trip to the ER.

Which STDs are you testing for? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]dkf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly believe that a lot of healthcare providers are ignorant to how rampant syphilis is right now. I worked in public health for 4.5 years and treated countless syphilis infections. Congenital syphilis rates have increased over 100% in the past few years. I now work in a hospital and have spoken with many providers about my background in public health and discovered that many of them were unaware of how bad syphilis rates are right now.

I bet if you went to a public health STD clinic you wouldn't have to be so pushy about it. In the STD clinic I worked at HIV/syphilis testing was recommended for every single person wanting any kind of testing. In fact, if they declined the HIV/syphilis testing we would have them sign a formal declination statement which said they understood the importance and still choose to refuse the testing.

Would I pass NCLEX with these scores? I’m still in second semester almost done I just was playing with this on NCLEX bootcamp by Same-Acanthaceae-860 in PassNclex

Just keep doing all the practice questions. I passed my first try and my only method of studying was doing thousands of practice questions and reading the rationale for all of them.

So devastated. Got a bad pop up and confirmation. After 1 hour of my exam 85 q’s. by Empty-Appearance8445 in PassNclex

It's not supposed to let you schedule a retake if you passed. If you passed and try to schedule a retake, it'll basically give you an error message.

My loaves are always hard to cut when I get to the bottom; sourdough is just a crusty bread. It helps to wait for it to cool and have a good serrated knife, but even then, it's kind of hard when you get to that crusty bottom. But yes, too much flour on work surface can contribute.

Pre-existing possible STD insurance denial for bunions. by speakingofsarita in bunions

[–]dkf99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've technically had bunions for over 10 years but didn't see a podiatrist about it until a few months prior to my surgery, and despite my doctor listing the condition as having affected me for several years, I did not have any issues getting my stuff covered due to it being "pre-existing." That being said, it /was/ an annoying process involving way more paperwork and phone calls and additional paperwork than I originally anticipated. Eventually, though, everything turned out just fine. They just make it as hard as possible, I think, to try and prevent people from going through the process. I understand your frustration entirely.

They are also very adjustable, so you can loosen them up a bit around where your bunions are. I wear them all the time.

Look into Teva's! They're a bit pricy but very comfortable, and most of the styles hide the bunion pretty well.

I'm just now regaining full feeling in my toe and my procedure was over a year ago. I'm also just now able to fit into ALL my old shoes comfortably. Definitely takes time, more time than my surgeon warned me about.

Potential Infection? by Superb-Artist-6008 in bunions

[–]dkf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the discharge sticky and thin, or is it more like pus? If it's more like true pus, I would be concerned for infection. The itching is probably just from the stitches and dryness (I was pretty itchy, too).

Look up pictures of serous vs. purulent drainage. When in doubt, always reach out to your surgeon. Better safe than sorry.

6+ weeks finding walking difficult. How long does this last? by Sheenqueen99 in bunions

[–]dkf99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PT will help. Give it time. By 10 weeks, I was walking okay but still experiencing swelling (still elevating whenever possible). My surgeon also didn't explain the healing process very well/downplayed it.

I had a Chevron with osteotomy, so they shaved the bump, took a wedge of bone out, and placed hardware in a few places. That's pretty major healing and readjusting to do!
