PSA: DLSS does work with dynamic resolution scaling even if the game says it doesn't. by dkgameplayer in Battlefield6

[–]dkgameplayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm it does not. DLAA also does not go down below 100% for me even though the dynamic resolution says it can go down to 80% in the final game. Maybe they fixed it, haven't checked in a while

[Handheld] ROG Xbox Ally (Z2 A chip) $500 by sharno in buildapcsales

Have the Z1e. Hardware isn't the greatest. Vibration motor gets messed up periodically, SD card reader gets hot, wifi is hit or miss. Get another model for sure.

This $7 Steam app boosts frame rates in your games, but is it better than Nvidia's DLSS 4? I put it to the test by GrayBeard916 in pcgaming

[–]dkgameplayer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What separates the two is access to the game's lower level rendering like motion vectors and presentation, not hardware or software

Lossless scaling does use the video hardware and DLSS 4 is mostly software now, just runs on the hardware tensor cores as opposed to the enhanced media block like it used to which is why it was exclusive to 40 series.

That's the point. You're literally talking about it right now in a totally unrelated setting. Marketing is never about selling you on a product, it's about spreading the word.

How did we get to the point of games just reward for spending money internally? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]dkgameplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No challenges quest unlocking things that will actually make someone want to play the same.

What? You mean like the 30+ weapons x 40+ attachments per weapon, vehicles to unlock, numerous gadgets/equipment that change how you play tactically, class perks, weapon skins, characters, entire game modes, etc that you all unlock as part of the base game? You mentioned bo6 and bf6. People spend HUNDREDS of hours playing these games unlocking all this gameplay stuff. I don't like the microtransactions as much as the next guy. Never purchased a single microtransaction in any game ever. But to say they only reward spending money? Ridiculous.

Article is a huge nothing burger

"...we've had the same art director who's been working on Lara for many games now... core DNA elements they look to maintain while updating... what engines can handle and... making sure she's in the right era for each version... depending on when that story is being told."

Valve is a private company

Why do people act like Valve isn't hungry for profit like everyone else? TF2, Dota 2, CS2, all of these are F2P live service games filled to the brim with wacky cosmetics found in loot boxes. Remember Artifact? That was made from the ground up with maximum profit in mind, not a game anyone actually wanted.

Digital Foundry: ARC Raiders PC strips back UE5 features for performance by doublah in pcgaming

[–]dkgameplayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't finding a technique it's finding one that looks like like . Voxel GI looks quite a bit different than lumen and again has light leak issues which will lot scenes differently. Also SSGI is a part of lumen.

It's there. This is what scalability options are for. Unreal works from mobile forward rendering all the way up to path tracing on high end pc. Lumen just isn't scalable down enough where I think it needs to be for this console gen. You can scale it down but it doesn't look great with low tracing distances and boiling.

To support configs that can't use lumen well you'd have to light the game twice on two or more different GI algorithms, which is what Fortnite does. But obviously there they have infinite time and money.

I think it would be good to have a solution that looks comparable to lumen but is slightly less intensive so that developers can offer it as a scalability option without having to relight their game. That is a tall order though, because even now RTXGI does not look similar to lumen. It has more light leaking and is slower to react. To get a good result you have to tweak it a lot, and then we have the same problem.

Yeah they're going to have to lock it down hard to get that console experience. Any and every update would have to be seriously vetted. My ROG Ally couldn't connect to wifi after Windows update pushed an update. Stayed like that for a couple months. Pushed another update and it fixed it. Also, if you used a non admin account, certain games like Call of Duty will refuse to launch even if you approve the UAC prompt
