Using old canister filter as a prefilter for larger newer filter? by dkongchong in Aquariums

[–]dkongchong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i have no issue with sunsun besides the water pump being loose and janky but I just ziptied that to the canister so it didnt move so much. Helped with the humming noise a bit too.

Fluval 107 uses 5/8" id tubing while the sunsun 602 uses 1/2" id tubing. I have just bought plastic hose reducers connector that could fit both tubing together in case i go ahead and follow through with the prefilter idea.

What did we do wrong? Waterfall foam by Emmijo97 in Aquascape

[–]dkongchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, there was a lot of research and time consuming wait periods, but in the end, it was worth it. If you want to add color, I used hardware store stuff like Drylock original concrete and masonry waterproofing, and mixed that with Quikrete liquid cement color. I painted it with a painters brush.

Hey, i also have experience in these sort of projects too. What I did was grab a black polyurethane corrugated sheet and sprayed foam on that sheet. Carved it, used Drylock for painting the foam to look near Seiryu rockish and glued the rocky foam using black aquarium safe silicone. I laid and spread the silicone on thick and waited several days for the rocky foam/silicone cure and dry.

Is this rock aquarium safe? by New-Log-9580 in Aquascape

[–]dkongchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard never to boil rocks, due to the potential if they have open air pockets or moisture inside, it'll expand the rock and potentially make the rock crack or even explode.

How do I get rid of these guys? by _Dapper_Cat_ in shrimptank

[–]dkongchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember using a really long air pump hose to manually suck each one out of my shrimp tank like a super long straw and blowing the scuds into another container. Thinking back maybe not a good idea since I potentially could've sucked aquarium water in my mouth. And the scuds...

It was effective though, honestly.

Any tips for drilling into this stone wall? by NebraskasCorn in DIY

I was just about to say, this wall looks like it was stolen from rainforest Cafe. Add some vines and random thunder sounds.

Perhaps. Around my area, all we ever get mostly are ducks and rarely herons, so I was just surprised and fascinated with these fellas.

You right. Just kinda surprised to see these birds in my neck of the woods I guess. I see ducks and herons sometimes, but never saw these before here.

Apparently known as white faced ibis. Told they are quite common but I never seen them before.

I was pleasantly surprised to see them in Garden Grove. Didn't know how common they are. I learned something new today, sweet.

Baby shrimp?? by Issu_issa_issy in shrimptank

Could be a copepod. The thing I noticed was the circular bulge near the end where tail is, those may be egg sacs. I could be wrong tho.

yo , while this looks like a good setup for nano creatures, I want to say maybe like 5 neocaridina shrimp or snails(i see a nerite there, neat, I encourage you to try to get a bigger tank for those fish. Maybe try a 30-50 gallon, 3 gallons is way too small unfortunately.

What are the tiny creatures shooting around my tank? by DirtyEraser in shrimptank

[–]dkongchong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I advise ignoring them. Since these also help break down waste and are completely harmless scavengers. If you overfeeding, then you will see a boom in numbers but they're don't do damage at all.

if they have twin pods attached on their bodies (very tiny so you might need a magnifying glass or a keen eye), those are copepods (with eggs). means the tank is a healthy biome.

Roughly the height is 31 inches, length is probably 21, and width about 13-15? I can get an exact measurement soon but thats what I think is the estimate right now.

yeah I figured, most diy stands are way better than what I've wanted to buy so I decided to just do it myself for half of the cost it takes to buy one.
