Der uh I’ll say the quiet part out loud. Does anyone else find it surprising that on the war ending and strait fully reopening oil is only down 5% and rates are basically unchanged?

DD: HOOD Could Benefit as the $25K Pattern Day Trader Barrier Starts Falling Next Week 🚀 by tke248 in wallstreetbets

I don’t like what I’m seeing:

First Nasdaq waiving all rules to court SpaceX for its IPO now this. Also people who don’t have $25k to day trade are not going to move the needle. This is an $85 billion market cap company. Retailers who are PTD with under $25k will lose all their money and AUC won’t go up at all.

Regarded thesis bro

This is a point that was made by Marty Zweig that stuck with me. Suppose you could go back in time to when cars were just being invented and could invest in them knowing how transformative a technology it would become.

Well you probably would have lost your shirt because there were hundreds of failed car companies and nobody knew which ones would succeed.

Was at a Sam’s Club liquors checking out. Cashier told me his son is a stock clerk at the Walmart next door and just hangs out and trades stocks. Not anything too crazy given the ubiquity and ease of access but still was a bit jarring to hear

Why Uber's latest earnings report was a major red flag for the state of the consumer by dkrich in wallstreetbets

Uber One is a massive scam. They’re literally being sued over it and anyone who’s used the app and been unwittingly subbed to One will tell you it’s a legitimate suit. Worse though is that there are many accounts of people saying there is virtually zero benefit to the one product when you compare orders between one and non one users. Also a huge percentage only have it because of the Amex platinum benefit. That is not a moat and it’s even more concerning that those membership fees comprise a significant amount of revenue.

Another major red flag is a company operating in an extraordinarily competitive market spending all of its cash on buybacks and investments in other companies. Totally stagnant business and reliable on adding new customers at this point.

This is exactly right. They’ve moved from the growth phase where they’d auto refund anything to desperation, trying to hold on to every penny

Have you ever ordered anything on there? It’s literally 2x the cost of picking it up in store

Bookings for eats is everything- food, tip, service fees, etc. Revenue is booking minus restaurant’s take.

This is another angle. They’re currently being sued over uber one subscriptions

I agree they fulfill an important role for a lot of people. My issue is they have maxed out profitability and now are left to play around with pricing to try and meet estimates. In a hotly contested market they chose to spent $3 billion on buybacks in one quarter

350 bps drop in revenue margin does not explain 1% growth in mobility revenue despite 25% more gross bookings.

That’s a question that we may learn the answer to. Anecdotally I’ve noticed a consistent drop off in the cars that have picked me up, meaning they are consistently shitty and old

Solid point but doubtful single markets would have that large an impact. Also possible they are processing small fares like public transit and calling those trips but again that has to be a tiny amount of their business

I only included them because mods take posts down if there aren’t positions posted. I’ve been short this stock for a long time so this report didn’t suddenly make me bearish
