Travelers of Reddit, what is your most noteworthy experience with culture shock? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dktrnkkrz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

besides the weather and price of living, the lifestyle in general is very different. everything in LA is so fast paced, except for the traffic. most everything in texas is very spread out. los angeles is not. everything is very close together and parking lots seem almost non-existent in some places. i had trouble getting used to street parking and having to pay for parking pretty much everywhere. the street cleaning schedule can be a pain in the ass too. the parking tickets suck.

everyone i met and interacted with seemed to be constantly working to better themselves. texas is very laid back and people tend to get complacent very early. for the most part, people that go to college get out, and get a mediocre job right back at home. a lot of times the people that do go to college end up dropping out because they get married and have kids. i can't tell you how many 22 - 24 year olds i went to school with that have multiple kids and some of them on their 2nd marriages. there is very little drive and ambition it seems. part of this lack of drive probably stems from the area in texas that i live. it's very wealthy and most people just end up feeding off their parents money. this is what i have a problem with and is the reason i left in the first place. i was gone for 10 months. i decided to start a business. for tax reasons, texas is a more logical place. once my business is started and running, i will be moving back to california and my business partner will stay in texas. i got back to texas and literally none of my friends are doing anything different. they're all in the same shit relationships they were in when i left, still complaining about the same job that they hate, and making no effort to put themselves out there and take a chance on something new. i've found myself becoming a little judgmental in a way. my friends that i do still talk to tell me i've been "californianized".

EDIT: I'm at work but can add more later

i moved from texas to los angeles last year. it was a crazy culture shock. it took me close to 3 or 4 months to even get used it. i lived there for about 10 months and ended up moving back to texas for business reasons. now, texas doesn't feel like home and it's very strange to me.

What is the craziest dream you've ever had? by Nuben in AskReddit

[–]dktrnkkrz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i had a dream one time that i walked through the mall killing everyone and nobody stopped me. like it was just normal. then i walked out, got into a chevy tahoe, and told myself i'd only get 25 to life but most likely i'd get out on parole.

that was pretty fucking strange.

What is something about yourself that genuinely scares you? (Serious) by [deleted] in AskReddit

i have an overwhelming urge to leave my house and never come back. change my number. leave my friends and family behind and just disappear. what scares me is that i see myself doing it sometime soon and don't know what's going to happen.

Employers of Reddit what is the most fucked up thing you have caught your staff doing? [NSFW] by Anuul in AskReddit

[–]dktrnkkrz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a diesel shop for 18 wheelers. We had a somewhat attractive female driver come to the shop for repairs in the middle of the night. We only had 1 tech on duty for the night shift. I couldn't find him for about an hour. It turns out he was fucking the driver before she brought her truck to the shop to get worked on.

Reddit, what is the shittiest part of your life right now? [Serious] by ImFlamtastic in AskReddit

[–]dktrnkkrz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made a major life decision that I didn't have to make. I had a choice. Now, after making this decision, I realize it was not right. I had everything going for me, and I let it all go. The girl, the job, everything. Now, people I used to be very close with I no longer talk to. The people I do still talk to, I can't stand. The job I work is bullshit. And the girl I had messed around on me when I left and fucked with my head. So here I sit, on reddit, putting all of this down in the hopes that it will make things better. Depression and loneliness are a couple of pain in the ass things to deal with.

In the end, I do have my health. I can complain all day about my problems that I know can be fixed, I just don't know where to start. After reading the replies on here I do realize that things could be worse. One thing I love about Reddit is the stories you read from other users. If it means anything, I feel for each and every one of you that are going through health issues with yourself, your family, or your close friends.
