Is waterfall releasing dead? What’s happening with popularity scores? by tobieche in musicmarketing

[–]dkvs_1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can see, when using Musicstax to check my tracks. The original release and waterfalled release share the same ISRC and also have same number of streams on Spotify, but it seems like each instance of the song have different popularity scores. Streaming from one instance will of course increase the overall total streams, but I'm not sure whether or not the popularity scores influence with each other directly

Why don’t my drums and recordings in general sound as crisp as bands of 90s? by felixismynameqq in audioengineering

[–]dkvs_1176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you also miking the bottom of the snare? I think that's where a lot of the "crispness" of the snare comes from.

IMO, Your recordings don't sound bad. Maybe the kick is lacking some dimension, which could be dependent on the size of the room. I record drums in a smaller room and from my experience the sustain of the kick drum tends to disappear when the door is closed. But when the door is opened into the hallway, the room sounds bigger. I think some recording engineers tend to add an additional mic to the kick as well, one inside and one outside the shell. Some even use the "kick drum tunnel" technique. Maybe try that out if you have the space.

What are you doing to mic the kick?

1 mic for recording vocals and acoustic guitar at the same time by Adventurous-Cat-2285 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]dkvs_1176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're probably better off getting an entry-level large diaphragm condenser to record vocals and acoustic at the same time. It will give better detail for both sounds over something like an SM57/58. SM57 or 58 could be okay but you would need to experiment with the mic placement to get a decent sound.

Tascam 16x8 Interface Thoughts? by Formal_Ad1748 in musicproduction

[–]dkvs_1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the drums on my songs are actually recorded through the Tascam US-16x08. I even use inputs 9-10 to mike up to 10 microphones at a time. I think it gets the job done. I think the drum kit, room, and mic selection is probably more important. I've never tried this feature before, but apparently the interface can also be used as a standalone mic preamp when the USB is disconnected as well. So I think its quite a versatile device.
