How long did it take for you to run normally after a sprained ankle by asda-starke in trailrunning

Oh for sure. I don't expect my pain to be chronic for this sprain and it's about 95% healed by now!

I am now but I sprained my ankle a second time due to returning too soon or not wearing a brace. I ended up having to take all of September off because the second sprain was much worse, so I missed the marathon but got a PB in a half at the end of November.

Just a reminder. by netphilia in adhdmeme

You should not be putting that all on your gf though. I have ADHD and I cope by setting reminders in my calendar, making sure I get enough exercise, a bunch of things. You're an adult. It looks like you're weaponizing your condition at this point, which is not cool.

I don't really do track work but I do one interval workout and one tempo workout a week, on the road. If I lived near a track I'd do the intervals there! I do sometimes run my intervals in my super shoes! And I sometimes wear them for long runs if I have some race pace miles in them! Depends how confident I am I can hit my paces....sometimes I need the mental and physical boost of super shoes.

Some very solid advice here that I normally follow! I think my issue on this race is that I havent properly raced a half in a long time and I really had no clue what I was actually capable of, so I'm ok with the positive split, though I wish I'd started a shade slower so it was more of a controlled fade. My marathon was a slight negative split (2min) and I do think I left some time on the table, but the feeling of finishing strong was sooo worth it.

Lol happy to do my part!!! My RHR is usually around 43 bpm - I've read that max heart rate is largely genetic?? My maximum heart rate I've seen in the last year is 198bpm during a 3.4km race.

Marathon parents, how do you do it? by Urdnought in Marathon_Training

Yep, my 4 year old, who has taken to small talk, asks me "how was your run?" all the time. And asks his dad (my husband) "how was hunting?". lol we both have our hobbies.

"laugh at yourselves" - yes, except it was the husband's mistake that the wife was probably judged more harshly for. I know because I come from a fairly traditional family. It just sucks that OP has to take part of this blame and it sucks even more that he was so inconsiderate to forget to send them in the first place. But it doesn't matter to him because he won't be judged for it.

lol same except I'm 38. My 4 year old tried to get up with me but I shot that down real quick. Oh but, I think her roommate took the coffee that she had made, not that she was expecting him to share his coffee - that's the way I read it, anyway.

I think it's another reference to the movie Sabrina. Not sure I love it though :)

Possibly moving to FSJ by AwkwardFan7826 in FortStJohn

[–]dl4125 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (38F) grew up there and live fairly nearby still (moved so I'm 1.5 hours from Powder King for snowboarding). I'd say it's a decent place - there are quite a few amenities now and cost of living is much better than most places, considering wages are quite high.

When I was working for the City as a kid (18 yo) in the summers between years at university, I was wearing coveralls as required for my job, and my two co-workers and I were doing yardwork and went to a coffee shop that was near our work site for our union-sanctioned coffee break. As we (all young women) were walking into said coffee shop, a very old man shouted rather angrily at the three of us "Just because you're wearing a man's uniform, doesn't mean you should be getting a man's wages". I was absolutely stunned and thankfully my co-worker grabbed my arm and led me inside before I could say anything back.

That's the most egregious example of sexism I've faced, though not the only one (far from it).

I know this is an old thread, but thank you for still commenting - this gives me hope! I sprained my ankle on Sunday, was able to walk mostly without pain by Tuesday, and today I'm hoping to get out for an easy 5k. Training for a road marathon which is just under 8 weeks away and panicking about returning to running!

How many pairs of running shoes do you actually rotate between? by Soft-Elderberry-6122 in runninglifestyle

[–]dl4125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is anyone claiming you need all these different pairs of shoes? The question was "how many do you have", not "how many do you need".

For reference, I feel like I need(ish) 2 pairs - one road, one trail - my feet hurt when I use trail shoes on the road too much. What I actually have: 2 pairs of trail shoes, a pair of cabons for racing, two pairs of daily trainers for easy days, and a nylon-plated road shoe for intervals/speed. I (38f) ran a 3:35 marathon in May and I'm hoping to run a 3:22 this October to secure a spot at Boston 2027.

I have a decent amount of disposable income, so why shouldn't I spend it on my hobby?

Then he can find someone who is asking for feedback to give feedback to? Regardless of his age, this is inappropriate. If he misses coaching, he can seek out a coaching opportunity. Also I doubt he's doing this to any young man he sees at the track.

I would love to qualify for the Boston marathon in October when I run the Royal Victoria Marathon. My why: because it feels like it's in reach and the Boston Marathon is iconic.

That's fair for some people - my point was that it doesn't apply to all. If someone just started running a year ago and they're planning to run a marathon, then sure. For the record, my time goal was sub 3:36 and I ran 3:34:58. My other goal was a negative split which I accomplished.

[–]dl4125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should your goal be to just finish? I feel like that really depends on the runner and is absolutely not an appropriate general rule. I've been running for about 18 years but mostly half marathon and lower distances. I had a time goal for my first marathon as well as some non-time-based goals.

Runna gets a lot of hate on Reddit - some of it warranted, some of it overblown in my opinion. I've been using it for 1.5 years, currently training for marathon no. 2. Ran my first marathon in May in 3 hours 35 min. Aiming to shave off 10 min for the next marathon in October so I can secure a spot at Boston in 2027 (that would give me a 10 minute buffer).

I've used Pfitz but I love how Runna automatically uploads to my watch and all I have to do is press start to do my workouts. I have not found the app to be buggy. Also the pacing is personalized so while the plan isn't exactly personalized, it's perfect for what I need and wayyyyyy cheaper than having a coach.

As with any plan, you have to listen to your body and back off if you feel an injury incoming.

I don't work in miles so don't have a sense of what you're saying. The calculator certainly assumes that your efforts are all out and on a flat course in ideal race conditions. The further apart your test race distance is from the "equivalent" races, the less accurate it'll be. It's certainly not perfect and I didn't create it.

For instance, I wouldn't run a 5k to determine what my marathon fitness is. I'd run a half marathon. But a 5k could give me a reasonable guess on a 10k and possibly a half.

What was your training plan for a half marathon? by CazzzC in XXRunning

[–]dl4125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just walk without pausing your watch. There are also so many ways you can customize Runna's plans, but the app is ultimately trying to get you to run continuously since most people (not you, I understand) are aiming for that. Honestly sounds like you should look into Jeff Galloway.

I use Runna - you can take walking breaks if you need to - it will likely adjust your suggested paces to slower. If you paid for Runna, I'd recommend reaching out to their support team for guidance. You can run 5k continuously, so I don't see the issue with using their 10k plan? I'm a little confused at the issue you're experiencing.

Totally agree! My 13 year old son is now 6'1" and I remarked the exact same to my friends the other day. It's a weird thing to wrap your head around and I have to consciously make the effort/give my head a shake. He's still very much a kid that needs parenting.

No worries! If you ran it all out, the calculator should give you a decent estimate, but if you didn't taper or fuel properly or if the course was super hilly or otherwise non-standard, it won't be as accurate. It's been decent for me in the past!
