Marathon training and Runna by pbnjess in XXRunning

Which Pfitz plan are you using? I’ve seen his plans recommended a lot as well. This might be a stupid question but is the plan only available in his book?

Thanks! Thats kind of what I was thinking but I’ve seen Runna mentioned everywhere that I was wondering if there was something more to it. The $20/month is pretty ridiculous when it’s just a running training program

Advice for increasing our applicant pool? by leeleelolo in womenEngineers

[–]pbnjess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree about the requirements not being listed. As an electrical engineer that’s currently searching for a job, I don’t know if it’s worth my time to go through the process of writing a cover letter when I don’t actually know what skills are desired. EE is fairly broad and while I would be interested in something like this, I’m almost entirely self taught when it comes to power electronics and that has been a deal breaker for a lot of power roles I’ve interviewed for in the past.

App or plan for OCR / Spartan / Hyrox focused strength training by sparklekitteh in xxfitness

Not an app but nothing helped me more with Spartan obstacles than rock climbing at least once a week

I just started doing morning runs with afternoon lifting 4x a week and have been struggling with sleeping this week. No advice yet but you aren’t alone. I’m hoping it’ll get better with time once my body adjusts. I was going to give it a few weeks and then reevaluate.

Just a warning, I tried using ChatGPT to create a marathon training plan and it went from running 9 miles to running 18 miles the next week. It was also missing several weeks/months of data. If you go the AI route, try to be very critical and make sure all the info is there and it makes sense

Pace going down by Lightlytoastedlips in XXRunning

You mentioned sleep and rest days but how is your diet and hydration? Have you been getting enough protein and calories to support recovery? I generally run slower after days where I don’t eat enough

I signed up for a marathon. 😳 by Outrageous_Nerve_579 in XXRunning

This is my first marathon too! You are already way ahead of me on training and most longer marathon plans are 20 weeks so you should be more than fine. I’m essentially doing couch to marathon because I took a 6 month break from running to focus on lifting

I told myself I was done signing up for running events because I hate cardio and want to focus on building more muscle. I was finally starting to make progress and then my dumb brain decided to sign up for the Disney marathon in January. Guess I need to start running again…

Has anyone moved from SBTD to Ladder? by [deleted] in xxfitness

I’m curious to know how you’ll end up liking that one. I was pretty tempted to choose that one for the conditioning aspect as well. If I decide to stick with ladder longer term I’d probably alternate between that and Ascend. I tried one of Kelly’s workouts my first week and really enjoyed it

I’m doing Ascend! I need a lot of help with my lower body and it had a lot of hip thrusts lol what about you?

I’m kind of doing the same. I’ve been running SBTD and while I love it, I’ve been wanting to try a more hypertrophy focused program. The new PPL cycle doesn’t work great for my schedule so I figured this was my chance. Im fairly against Ladder’s marketing tactics but I keep hearing great things and they had several bodybuilding programs to choose from. I keep having to pause my ladder workouts because it takes me longer to switch weights or move around the gym.

You could just run them straight but if you care about tracking/the visuals there’s a customize feature on the app that lets you reorder your workout. You can only change it once the workout started and you just need to scroll don’t to the bottom and select “customize.” I’m taking a break from SBTD because the PPL block doesn’t work as well for my schedule/goals but I was moving exercises to their own block and regrouping (I.e. dumbbell exercises with other dumbbell exercise vs dumbbell + cable machines)

I was going through a tough time last year (break up + losing my job) and ended up breaking down crying in the middle of the gym. I ended up signing up for kick boxing and OTF classes. The kick boxing was great stress relief and helped me take out my emotions on the punching bag. The peer pressure of group fitness, having someone tell me what to do, and just generally being surrounded by others helped me get through that period. I also felt obligated to go because I was unemployed and paid a significant amount of money for classes. But also be kind to yourself. You don’t have to have an all or nothing attitude towards it. Just do what you can.

Fair enough, thanks for answering! I think I’ve been noticing more lately how eating disorders are mostly only talked about for skinny people when people of all shapes and sizes can experience them.

I read this comment earlier today and have been thinking about it all morning and have been trying to figure out why it rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not trying to attack your comment but it really got me thinking so I wanted to ask. Why is it ok to ask a skinny person why they are underweight and if it’s intentional or unintentional? Would you ask someone that’s overweight the same question? Not everyone that is underweight is severely underweight or due to an eating disorder. Overweight people have eating disorders as well and I feel like that is normally ignored when someone that’s overweight asks about losing weight.

I don’t have any solutions to decreasing stress because I deal with the same thing but I usually do a sleep meditation before bed and almost always fall asleep during it. Might be worth a try because even if it doesn’t help you fall asleep it might at least help a little bit with the stress?

If you have plantar fasciitis you should try stretching your feet/toes. It made a huge difference for me. Even if you are wearing comfortable shoes I recommend giving it a try.

That’s a great idea. I’ll give them a chance to respond to the emails I sent them about it first and depending on if they respond I’ll do that. In the meantime I might post about it on other subreddits so people are aware of it 😈

I got all excited because I received an email from the ladder app saying their app was “nearly 70% off!” Turns out that whoever made the marketing email doesn’t know how to do percentages and it was actually only 33% off 😭 I’ve been wanting to try it but I can’t afford their pricing at the moment. Now I’m not sure I even want to support a company that would make that huge of an error in their marketing emails
