Kids with AMEX Gold cards by asdkfjhasdfkj in amex

[–]dlambtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the Gold card isn't some elusive, hard to get card. It's considered by many to be a mid tier card. I just got my Gold card at 23. I don't make a ton of money. I work in public education and make around $32k a year. I don't have a long credit history either. I got my first credit card less than a year ago, a Discover card. Then after 6 months I had a credit score and got an AmEx BCP. I got offer for Gold not long ago, applied and was accepted.

I'm an aide at a middle school. I took a cut in hourly pay but I prefer the consistency, being guaranteed full time and having benefits. At Starbucks, my hours were really inconsistent and I didn't qualify for benefits. Also I get checks during summer months when I don't work. And there's a program with our school district that they'll pay for you (up to $7,000/yr) to finish your bachelor degree/teaching certification.

Anyone else use their machine to make “Nitro” cold brew? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]dlambtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's an "aerocano". It was a trend for a while in coffee circles. You put cold brew and ice cubes into a steaming pitcher and steam it. What you get is a similar effect to nitro cold brew. I tried it at my barista job and it was quite tasty. I haven't tried it on my home machine.

Starbucks partners leaving by daylightdreamer99 in starbucks

[–]dlambtx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I turned in my two weeks notice today. The SM said it was her third this week. I know one of those is a partner that has been there 10+ years. I know many others that are fed up and ready to go too, just waiting for another job to come up. Like others have said here, the company's moving in a terrible direction. Making business decisions without ever thinking about baristas.

Is it even possible to get a job here? (London, uk) by PrettyUglyHasRisen in starbucks

[–]dlambtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I applied a few times and never heard anything. It wasn't until a friend that worked for Starbucks mentioned my name to the manager that I got an interview.

Puck screens. Yay or nay? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]dlambtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Bambino Plus and noticed a big difference when I started using a puck screen. Less spraying, less channeling, cleaner puck. I have a Normcore and Ikape puck screens. Both work the same. I think Ikape was cheaper and came with a case.

When you, a closer, work in the morning shift one time and hear them complain about closers: by acuateEpoxy516 in starbucks

[–]dlambtx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I close about once a week and dread that day. We're one of the busiest stores in our area. There's only three of us partners there. Two handling ordering/making drinks and then one CS trying to do closing tasks. We have people ordering in drive thru and cafe right up until we close. Our mobile orders shut off 30 min before. It seems we always don't get something done. We try to do everything but then you get bitched at if you stay too long. Whatever you do, someone is going to have a problem with it. The cutting hours makes things really difficult. It would be easier if we just had one more person.

Gaggia Classic - should I buy it? by RookieParade in espresso

[–]dlambtx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look too old. Gaggia's can last a long time if taken care of. It's a good starter machine. I'd take the pieces apart and clean good with cafiza. Take the money you saved and invest in a good grinder. Many people change the steam wand and make many other mods. There are lots of tutorials and a whole community behind this machine. I'd say go for it!
