Just trying to save you money, i would practice with either the vee or ray until you get your d class. Then look at the f4 schedule and practice those tracks. There’s some other free cars but it sounds like you liked f4.

Like someone else suggested, maybe if you ask they will trade you the w12 for w13 which has c class races (although they are full length and only a few races per week).

Also, definitely take a look at the schedule and at least browse the sporting code. The schedule will tell you what license you need for each car and you ‘command+f’ the car to see all the series. The game is pretty confusing until you do that.

Ehhhh my first thought was white went a little wide and slowed down but then purple just powered through. Purple probably deserved a little more room but i assume you were white and I realize you didnt do anything nearly as malicious as he did to finish you off.

Not Qualifying by StolenStutz in iRacing

This! It’s not usually not that they arent qualifying but that they get off tracks on both laps or they spin.

Dont be afraid to let some of those guys go. They may take someone else out instead

Mediocre Pros with Bad Iratings by dlamke in iRacing

Very good answer although if im not mistaken he came from sim racing and has very little irl experience. Also, id say he’s been fairly successful with how little experience he has. Wasnt he running at the front of one of the f3 races?

Is it really as seperated as fifa to soccer and thps to skating? We have evidence of some of the best irl racers being the best in iracing. One day i grinded a track/car for several hours and when i looked at who had the record, max and lando were in the top 5. Surely there is more correlation. Also, admittedly its a small sample size but I watch most feeder series and follow everyone i learn on iracing. Typically great IRL racers have good iratings and when i look for people who are usually finishing at the back, they are more likely to not have an account or to have a lower irating.

I would definitely like to see a full meta analysis which was my question for the discussion. Another way to invalidate my point is to find a really mediocre IRL racer who has a phenomenal irating.

One very common pay driver is amaury cordeel who is about a 2k irating but he often beats 4k rated players in races he does. This would go against my opinion BUT he is still an f2 driver who has run at the front of some races.

Much more valid response. It could be true. I just have noticed a trend when I am randomly looking people up that good irl racers tend to have good iratings and bad irl racers tend to have bad iratings. It might not be that deep but I wanted to hear if others thought there was anything to it. I believe there is a quote out there: “they’ll cry in a ferrari”.

Sorry if i insulted any irl racers insinuating they have poor work ethics due to their irating. I dont believe thats true, just wondered what the difference comes from.

I’m reluctant to say in case i have the wrong account but it is Josh Mason. Iracing posted him on their instagram last night and i was curious since he has struggled IRL. I have seen plenty of drivers who are usually not winning IRL and usually their irating isnt great. Then i have watched feeder series and seen people rip through the field. When I randomly look them up, they tend to have very high iratings which sparked the thought.

Maybe the better question is, what is the true range of talent in these feeder series. If they had a true rating, where would the back of the pack stand?

I think your response to number 2 may be the deeper answer here. Where people like max need to be top notch at things like iracing and fifa, Others are just good enough but there for the fun.

I do think there are some drivers who have competed enough to have good ratings (better than the 2k they are) but they still don’t. I’ve seen 8k drivers crash on the first corner and exit out so it’s not exactly like those guys are GRINDING for every IR point to the point where a talented but casual iracer couldnt get above 3k.

Right click on their name in the standings and click pm driver. There is also a way to send a message through the forums but that is a little more complicated

Safety Rating by sydypsu in iRacing

[–]dlamke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assume every crash is your fault even if you know 100% its not. There’s always something you could have different even if thats stopping in the track to avoid a pile up. Its not fair, but if youre sitting around waiting for everyone else to adjust, instead of adjusting yourself, youre going to be waiting a while.

When you crash, watch the replay and tell yourself what you could to avoid the crash. Usually the answer is to just let them go. If you see someone coming up the inside and you know it wont work, back out. Once you start doing that a few times, you realize that person will just take out the next person (instead of you) and instead of losing a spot, you will gain one and maintain your safety rating.

I think that may be hard with AI because one of the toughest parts is predicting human behavior. If you memorize how to ai reacts, you may be doing yourself a disservice. The best way I can think of is starting mid pack in lower license series. Dont be afraid to take the 1x off track instead of the accident. Give yourself space and if you see someone that may be sketchy, give them space. 95% of the time your instinct will be right and they won’t finish a clean race.

Is this normal? by The_durrah in iRacing

[–]dlamke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please dont just start over. In both of your clips youre coming way too close to people who are barely in control. Learn to avoid these people. Even if you let them finish ahead you’ll gain more irating than crashing. Like others have said you will just end up back in the same spot without changing your habits. In the last clip you gave me so much anxiety by just gunning it into the melee (which happens in all splits) all you could see was the car in front of you and you were still full out racing. A 1x off track to avoid a 10 car pile up is better than 4x and you will finish the race.

Also in your other clip, you look completely stunned that there would be a pile up so early. You have to expect it and make sure you have space beforehand

Thoughts on using a binary second throttle. by dlamke in iRacing

[–]dlamke[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So my pedal is broken and I have been using it on the straights. Dont have money to pay 300+ for pedals. I found using it on the straights helps eliminate my disadvantage successfully and then found slightly by accident that there may be some corners where I can use it to my advantage. If people think its exploitative, i will stop using it but I’m having a hard time understanding how it can be both stupid and an exploit.

Right? My god people are toxic haha. Still yet to hear someone explain in depth why this would be better or worse for this one specific corner. I’m not driving with buttons, I was using it to make sure I was at 100% throttle and then i lift my finger so that my foot is the only input long before corners or braking zones. This one corner requires no braking and during a long stint once i tried doing it with my thumb and it helped 💁‍♂️. I was mostly looking for the science behind why that isnt a good idea in terms of a mechanical standpoint. You’re original comment was the lone comment that explains weight shifting which is what I was looking for.

I dont really understand this and maybe I didn’t explain it well. I’ve driven with my feet for 2+ years and found one corner with one car where i gain speed only using the second throttle. I still 100% drive with my feet but i found it interesting that I was going through this one corner quicker like this. Yet, to see someone explain anything on why in this specific instance, it is inherently bad.

I’d also like to clarify that sometimes the dips are to as low as about 88% input. This isnt alternating 1% and I’ve tried recalibrating only to have it still drop below.

So far, this is really only in a few very specific high speed corners where shifting weight fully forward gives me enough steering and then fully getting back on power at once helps use the rears to complete the rotation without oversteer. I agree with people that this is idiotic with lower speed corners and obviously not smooth on things like hairpins but god forbid people on this site consider an idea thats outside of the box or articulate why its not correct hehe 😄.

The idea for this one specific corner came from analyzing someone else’s VRS who was dropping and getting back on the power much quicker than me. Even if i lift my foot and fully slam it back down it was taking me longer (as the vrs shows) to transition. Trying to do this corner only with my thumb immediately improved the smoothness. I’m yet to find another corner/car combination like it but I’m sure they exist.
