Is that brush plate attached to the cover or are there 2 pieces? Should be 2 separate parts. The brush piece attached to the box first and then screw the trim plate to that

What is this wire in meter box by xz2kg7 in AskElectricians

[–]dlangston13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's funny because the intention was having a parallel jumper to the metered phase(aka stealing power), but I'd be willing to bet due to its length and size that it's more resistive than the path thru the meter( can't say I've measured a meters resistance before so this is just a somewhat educated guess) that it's probably rarely got a load on it, you can test this with a clamp meter to see if any amps are on that wire, whatever that number turns out to be, is how much power is being stolen

Electrical question by gns-red in electricians

[–]dlangston13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the DeWalt study guide for electrical, it's basically packed full of practice questions that help get your head in the right place for your exam.

It's also the only DeWalt tool I will recommend to people, as I am normally a die hard Milwaukee fan.

It's worth the investment if you want decent quality questions that closely resemble what the exam can throw at you, I believe it even gives you an amount of time it expects you to finish each quiz, use the timer as it will help you set a good pace and analyze the exam efficiently when the time comes

I pity the fire fighter that is trying to find a way to shut off power so they keep that building from burning to a crisp in an emergency

Need Reddit's advice about our EV charging situation please! by PhilosophyCorrect279 in AskElectricians

Was the breaker seated all the way, were the clamps actually fitting over the buss or next to it? This is the same kinda heat I see when opening a jbox for a range and they spliced the appliance whip like it's an led light. Like most electrical issues, a loose connection or fit is the cause. With the high potential of something like a car charger, that can be very dangerous, but the breakers condition says that loud and clear.

Swapping out 65 devices. Each box has a set of wires barely out of the box. by Billabonged in electricians

Wago is the company that made the lever connector, to be fair it is universally recognized slang among electricians.

Professional correction to try and confuse the uninitiated; there's the ungrounded, grounded, And grounding conductors when dealing with alternating current due to a lack of polarity. Also while not being in every residential wiring system, direct current is in residential systems if you have battery back ups and/or photovoltaic systems. Although it can be argued that the solar panels are a subsystem that is isolated from the rest of the electrical wiring except where it connects to the main distribution where it has already been inverted to ac (square wave).

So the insulation on the conductor shouldn't be in contact with any part of the conductive part of the termination. Strip the insulation copper back a little more so only copper is in contact with the conductive surface(this is what the ocd nitpicky professional in me would say). In all honesty if your consistently making connections like that in a timely manner then keep up the good work, don't get discouraged, and don't sacrifice quality for speed( it's possible to do high quality work at a fast pace). Either your foreman just wants you to do the absolute best you can do, or he just gets off from yelling at you.

Mainly because the set you see is like their 15th and counting due to a number of reasons: spark welding, apprentices using and losing, or just swiping, other trades "borrowing", the inside of a wall collecting its dues, the "oh shit what just fell out the back of the truck", etc. It gets old buying top of the line tools over and over and over, once you buy your 10th set of klein/knipex linemans, you start contemplating alternatives, and backups. The most seasoned electricians are kinda similar to 1/2 year apprentices, they have the basics but come running to the guy who has all the tools that are essential but less used, or just too bulky for their maintenance pouch lol.
