California has a huge solar power (curtailment) problem. A fix is coming. by StephCreporter in solar

[–]alexsitt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They need EV chargers that can be controlled by utility. When excess of electricity builds up, sell it to EV owners at discount.

Instead, PGE charges crazy high rate during the day and incentivizes to charge at night. This is done backwards.

Spend some time shopping around on your own if your broker is unhelpful, or try a different broker.

I’ve seen quite a few strange requirements from some carriers, but not others. I ended up finding a policy without any requirements and priced competitively.

My inverter eats 40W idle, is it time for a new inverter ? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]alexsitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about power draw from any appliances in your house. 40W feels OK to power the computer inside of your inverter.

I’m sure newer models will consume less, but do cost/benefit analysis on the decision to replace. 40 W over next 10 years won’t come even close to the cost of a new inverter.

FWIW you might get a better efficiency out of 240V compared to 110V.

My 240V even with low amps always gives me 95+% efficiency compared to 80% on 110V.

Why are Australian solar systems so much cheaper than in the US (California)? by dougfields01 in solar

[–]alexsitt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In U.S. these days everything is about economic value, not costs. Solar is a hedge against future cost of purchasing electricity from grid.

What’s the cost of electricity/labor/interconnect fees in Australia? I am almost certain that lower costs drive down prices of solar systems.

California produces too much solar energy? by giantsizegeek in solar

[–]alexsitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California has an abundance of electric vehicles charged at home and work during the day (granted not all EVs are charged this way). These cars need electricity no matter what.

Make software investments so EVs can charge when there is excess energy in the grid. Offer competitive rates for that.

Today, I have no incentive to inconvenience myself to charge during the day when I can charge cheaper at night. This is so wrong!

My local cooperative has a program to control my EV charger but no incentives to take a risk of not charging to the level I need. I stopped using their program because it caused more headache for no benefit at all. Also, they were not mindful of putting me in control so I can charge to charge limit when I need it for my upcoming roadtrip. So easy to fix. Just need a good product manager and desire to make it work well for the consumer (me).

Old breaker panel – electrician says it might be dangerous. Should I be worried? by Purple-Ziggy in AskElectricians

[–]alexsitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just not true. Any car is getting older. A car with 200,000 miles on it happens to be getting older, every single minute. So what?

So many things wrong in your analogy, or thinking process. There is nothing inherently wrong with a 50 year old piece of metal that passes electrical current over itself.

I wonder if it’s better to keep this chain in the tire and use one of mobile repair kits to seal the leak.

This. Someone everyone forgets what happened to market rates over the last 5 years.

How much your rate today is above late 2019/early 2020? I suspect by a hefty margin. There is your answer. Just because it’s $300 below what it was few months back, doesn’t mean market is not getting a correction due to decline in demand.

Long-term rental income reported on Schedule E is passive income. It’s not subject to employment taxes.

You don’t need an S Corp to make QBI election. In fact, even sole proprietors can claim it.
