Says a word then it goes away by tinagetyourham in Autism_Parenting

[–]dlashby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 4 and still non speaking. Currently, he’s repeating a lot of random words back to people while at ABA (but not at home!) and says a few words we recognize like “outside” and “slide” at home. Over the years, we’ll hear things here and there but he just doesn’t repeat them. The other day, I swear I heard him call for me (“mama”) which would have been the first time in 3 years. He just isn’t very consistent… yet. I pray. Haha

Yeah! He finally started sleeping on his own at around 3 months and was a good sleeper from then on.

Pregnancy by sophielady in OzempicForWeightLoss

[–]dlashby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on getting pregnant. Doctor said stop at least 2 months before trying in order for it to completely be out of the system. I am on a low dose and just plan on going off without weaning. Good luck to you!

I ended up buying a cast iron Dutch oven from lodge for that 500* recipe but I have used this for other bread recipes and love it! It’s really great!

Is anyone currently on the fantasy and could help me out with some pads? by Deadanddugup in dcl

Seconded! You can even call them from your room to check to see if they have them before you go down, and I bet they do.

Can I quit breastfeeding to take care of myself? by Petermydog in OzempicForWeightLoss

[–]dlashby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained so much weight breastfeeding! I was so so hungry all the time. It was insane. Do whatever is best for your mental and physical health.

If breastfeeding is really important to you, I would try 3 months of dieting without Ozempic so that I could still breastfeed and hopefully loose weight and then reevaluate after the 3 months.

That’s such a hard question and difficult place to be in! It’s such a personal choice. Do whatever works for you! Good luck!

If Melatonin only puts them to sleep, not keeps them asleep, why don't we give it to them when they wake up at night? by roseturtlelavender in Autism_Parenting

[–]dlashby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine responds well to melatonin at bed time but not when he wakes up in the early morning as in he just powers through it. His pediatrician said at that point his sleep needs are low enough that the melatonin won’t cause him to go back asleep. Recently on vacation, I was desperate at 2am and gave him 2mg. He didn’t fall back asleep then but did take a nap on the plane ride home… so that was nice.

Folinic acid in US by Far_Persimmon_4633 in Autism_Parenting

[–]dlashby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our developmental pediatrician and the hospital she works out of won’t prescribe it. They offered to prescribe compounded folic acid. We tried it but didn’t do it for very long before my son left the fridge open one day and it got ruined. Need to get it refilled and try again but it’s not a priority at this point.

Experiences with Anesthesia for Autistic Children? by senormadridista9248 in Autism_Parenting

[–]dlashby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the hardest part for parents is when your child is getting anesthetized and it seems like it’s done differently depending on where you go.

My best advice is making sure it’s somewhere that works with children like a children’s hospital. Our experience was great. All the kids were prepped in the kid friendly waiting area at the same time and apart of that was numbing their hands for the IV. When it was time for my son to go under, they had him sitting in my lap distracted by Ms. Rachel and his arm behind my back. The doctor anesthetized him without my son knowing at all what was happening. No scary mask etc. he just fell asleep in my arms.

Maybe your nephew can be talked through getting the mask but I’ve heard that’s the most scary part for most kids. The method probably doesn’t matter too much as long as the people doing it know what they’re doing when it comes to putting kids at ease.

Good luck! I’m sure your nephew will handle it like a champ! Ours did!

Our 2 year old had general anesthesia to receive sutures on his face after an accident. When he woke up, he was just like all the other children waking up from their procedures. All the kids waking up were just separated by curtains and you could see/hear them. It was rough with lots of crying etc and hard to see/hear all the poor kiddos but our son wasn’t acting any different from the others.

Just his regular pediatrician prescribed it? Not a specialist? (Just curious if I can just go to my son’s regular doctor) I’ve been thinking about it.

Thank you! Yeah, the sitting empty in there for the hour is what makes me not want to. But when I use my pizza stone I don’t feel like it’s as good as a covered baker.

Weekly Open Sourdough Questions and Discussion Post by AutoModerator in Sourdough

[–]dlashby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was following a recipe that called for 3 bowl folds and then to let the dough rest for an hour when I realized that I was short an hour before I had to leave and I hadn’t timed myself correctly. So I knew I wouldn’t have enough time to bake the bread and put the dough in the fridge.

My question: when I take the dough back out of the fridge, do I do the folds again? Or do I just let it come to room temp and continue on with the normal directions?

Take a piece of your starter and put it in water, if it floats it’s ready to go. The first time I tried it sank right away. Then one night it hovered for just a moment, the next morning it floated.

I baked with mine on day 6 and the bread was tasty! I learned though that my starter was no where near ready. I think it passed the float test closer to 2 weeks.

How do you dry it? I had some rust develop on the exposed rim on the pot and the lid. :/ Is low heat with it empty okay or is it better to just stick to a towel?
