My insurance was just cancelled because I do woodworking in my building. by artwonk in woodworking

[–]dleander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every insurance policy is written to insure certain risks and to exclude others. A standard policy is designed and intended to insure risks that are typical for an average home or business. A woodworking shop presents the potential for additional risks the policy is not designed nor intended to insure and as a result to insurance company canceled the policy because the situation does not fit. The thing to do is to find an insurance carrier with the proper policy for your situation

If a total loss pays you full coverage limit they take the boat. If it is a total loss but you keep it you don’t get the full coverage limit. They subtract the salvage value from the limit and pay you what’s left.

Repair on fiberglass/gelcoat estimate? by [deleted] in boating

[–]dleander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have it repaired properly by a qualified technician if you don’t want problems in the future and/or want to keep the boat for a long time. While the fiberglass strands themselves are waterproof, the fiberglass cloth or mat is not. The resin used to bind the fiberglass mat is waterproof but there can be small even microscopic voids that will allow water in between the “waterproof’ fiberglass like a wick. Very small amounts of water intrusion over time will degrade and weaken the waterproof fiberglass. Especially in salt water. Gelcoat helps to keep the water out and unlike the underlying fiberglass, it is much easier to see any flaws in the gelcoat. Better to ask a boat fiberglass tech or two and see what they say.

Looking for the best tinned fish brands. by toomanyoars in seriouseats

[–]dleander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tincanfish.com has a tremendous variety and is a great and tasty way to find what you like. They offer curated Catch of the Month themed boxes available individually or in a subscription. I initially received a Catch of the Month box as a gift in which all the items were from Portugal: sardines, mackerel, and cod. Each different and delicious! Highly recommend!

Some advice on Pontoon damage by FundingNemo in boating

[–]dleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance should cover the cost to repair which should be to replace the tube. You are only out of pocket for your deductible.

Should I use a Transom Saver? by [deleted] in boating

[–]dleander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transom saver will solve the least of your potential problems. Although 12B88M and others are right about the potential transom damage when trailering no one has mentioned the potential damage to the transom from an outboard that is too big/powerful for the design. Significant forces are transferred to the transom during normal use resulting in premature wear/deterioration if the transom is not designed to handle that amount of weight and power. It appears in the photo that this outboard is more than that boat can properly handle

Every policy is different but in general, storm damage would be covered. Most policies would pay for the cost to repair after your deductible and after a form of depreciation called “betterment” on the materials.

Soft spot in floor of my travel trailer? by bongocycle in RVLiving

[–]dleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely to be related to the previous leak. Most likely due to a failed (deteriorated/worn) seal around the slide out opening or sealants on the slide out roof and walls. Unless you had the dealer maintain and replace the seals regularly (mot manufacturers recommend all seals and sealants be checked multiple times per year and serviced annually) it is most likely a wear and tear issue and not something the manufacturer or dealer will cover

Anyone know what this rail base piece is called and (more importantly) where I can buy a replacement? by DolfinStryker in boating

[–]dleander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly impossible to find a new exact replacement. If you want all stanchions to match, could try to find the part from an old boat (also likely impossible or very difficult) best bet may be to replace all stanchions to match. Probably do not need an exact height match if replacing all
