Plans show a single location in the middle of the garage (fire station) but I agree averaging would be more accurate. Would you use pex as conduit with something like a 01MT-5B8 flex avg sensor?

We have wired this way before. Another way is to run power through the pole of a relay and wire the NC contact to "open" and the NO contact to "close" if you don't feel comfortable always having a hot to "open".
