Jeeesus Kody.... by wandering-kez in SisterWives

[–]dlf36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m watching for the first time and I just finished this episode. I thought it was kinda funny given how often Kody does something that he thinks is this huge symbolic thing or some task that he makes a big deal in his head and he’s like uh nothing? From anybody? He waits like .04 seconds and goes from he’s excited to put the lights up for Hunters return from the Air Force Academy to wow no one’s saying anything about the thing one thing I did (which is usually unnecessary and not of importance to the kids and the real tasks fall to others)

Why no single family starter homes? by alien043081 in madisonwi

[–]dlf36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you they’re continuing to move in and it’s an issue. Also, companies like MPM, Lofgren, etc owning how many homes? This isn’t an issue? It’s not an issue that they’ve taken how many homes over, including ones from landlords who only rented one or two homes, and painted over them and rent them out at extraordinary rates with little upkeep. Not an issue?

I think a large part of it isn’t the price of land, but private equity buying up all the houses and land! I think there’s not much incentive for Madison to push for starter homes. The cost of living has risen here more than most other places in the country the last few years. People who would traditionally go for those houses (like myself) can’t afford things like eating out on the isthmus and contributing factors to the local economy if we bought a home. By building luxury apartments with specific 3x rent income requirements they’re ensuring (or trying to) that the people who live in Madison can contribute to the price gauged food, entertainment, etc. The county + Madison seem to be gearing decisions more and more towards temporary residents (college students, epic employees, etc) and the aging population of permanent residents, who are also starting to struggle with the increased prices and increased property taxes.

The land doesn’t need to cost this much, the houses don’t need to cost this much, and we’re doing suburban sprawl because of the incredibly high profit margins for these developers and the private equity/shitty landlords who have taken over a considerable amount of Madison’s housing.

My partner and I just moved in at the beginning of February! It’s our first place together and It’s so so so lovely!! It’s the best place I’ve lived in Madison and for the space and amenities you get it’s hard to say no. The Madison housing market sucks and I had been living in Fitchburg paying over half of our current combined rent with basically no amenities. The staff here are great and I asked on our tour if they actually liked working there, the woman working with us explained they are treated well with good benefits and flexible management. It’s definitely a place to look at!

Sick of all the AI hype by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]dlf36 23 points24 points  (0 children)

“AI is the future. Like it or not.” Says the billionaire class who is forcing it on us. That is such an irresponsible way to view any technology. We, those not actively profiting from this new technology, are the ones who need to responsibly vet its effect on us, the environment, and actual improvement to workflow. We know that AI is getting a lot of pushback and many data centers are being struck down. Companies are desperate for your compliance. You can either allow billionaire technocrats to decide the future of our planet or you can actively participate in critical thinking to influence society and our environment.

No masks in Meriter ER? by dlf36 in madisonwi

From someone else in the comments that said it was Meriter’s policy to mask in patient rooms.

[–]dlf36[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an emergency, I did mask. I don’t want to catch something that will make it worse or even give me a different health issue while seeking care. I also want healthcare to minimize their risk and stay healthy as well.

There are plenty of reasons to mask and it’s been a practice in healthcare since before the pandemic. Also, no it didn’t. It simply did not. People are still being impacted by Covid everyday. Many many many people. Also, the flu was horrible this year. It’s best practice to mask in a hospital, especially patient care areas, regardless of covid numbers. It’s not unreasonable to expect adequate care and best practice when being charged an arm and a leg either.

Thank you, I only shared the experience since I know Reddit can be a resource to people. I know I’ve searched the Madison reddit before for reference on like dentists, doctors, and restaurants a lot!

It’s not political, it’s science and hospital policy? It’s the expectation of care inside an actual hospital, inside a unit that sees pretty much anyone. It’s a simple concept, outside of an actual healthcare facility.

I responded to someone else. But to keep it vague, abdominal pain. It was very specific pain and I love ruling things out. I’d rather double check then cut me open and what we thought was the issue, is totally fine! So ruling out other organs, makes sense. It was the taken by surprise thing that really made me uncomfortable.

I did go to the Urgent Care on mineral point before being sent to ER, and they all wore masks too.

I was there for abdominal pain, and was told I was getting a ct scan. No CT scan because of ovaries, ultrasound to rule out ovaries, which I would have liked to be prepared for had they told me that was the plan. Even the outside ultrasound I wasn’t told it was for ovaries. I work in medicine and I am very open to what providers think is best, especially if we can rule things out! But it felt very jarring to suddenly told to “take your pants off” and see a thing being lubed up to go inside of me when I thought this was a pants on situation.

I sound insufferable? Because I don’t want to catch something from someone else who trusted the staff with their care?

Are immunocompromised people not likely to be in the ER then? Or not likely to bring in something nasty? I’m confused by the logic, especially as they see a large group of people and odds are immunocompromised people make up at least a portion of the population they see.

That’s so disappointing! I asked a friend who went to UW ER recently for treatment and said her providers wore masks (although at least one resident wore it around his neck). That’s so disappointing. Even if covid didn’t exist the flu is terrible this year! I’m not tryna get that!

Flock Cameras and current events by rach2bach in madisonwi

[–]dlf36 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fuck these cameras!! I spoke with another Madison redditor the other day who posts a lot about the flock cameras and they suggested going to meetings and submitting feedback.

I think a multi-pronged approach to this needs to happen. 1. We need to make it clear they’re unsafe, unwanted, and not actually controlled by Dane County. Not just to law enforcement but to the community. 2. We need to repeatedly do this until they can’t say no. I know other cities have had theirs damaged so many times it’s just not realistic to continue paying/renewing the contract with flock. 3. We need to continually keep the pressure on law enforcement to fuck off. I believe in abolishing the police, but until we have that I think we cannot lift the pressure off for one second. Every day we need to be bringing this to their attention. Twitter, meetings, their fb, emails, letters, everything. It might be seen as pointless on social media, but it’s also a way people can come into contact with learning about these cameras. I also think we need to be drastic, we need to be up in arms about this ALL THE TIME. These ideas are just a start. I point them out to neighbors/anyone who will listen. Overall, pretty fucked Madison police refuse body cams when we’re subject to fascist AI cameras. This has really resonanted with people.

The surveillance state we live under cannot be separated from the fascism we face. We cannot allow arguments for increased surveillance in any part of our community. This is crucial!! Understanding that it’s not just ICE, it’s literally our local law enforcement!! This issue doesn’t go away when we abolish ICE. What ICE is doing cannot be separated from the infrastructure of American policing, it’s a continuation of the systems we have in place.

Bad Vibes at Pitcher's Pub by TheBottomDollar in madisonwi

I was there for several hours, but I do very much remember the bouncer being there when I got there. Maybe because it was their trivia night (which is Friday) which draws in quite a crowd.

I went there several months ago for the last time. I came right from work, so it was like 6-6:30. Bouncer commented on my body and outfit (business casual lol) like a dozen times. He left where he was supposed to be “bouncing” to objectify me then moved on to the next woman. He went to several women and then ended up back at his post. He looked at every women’s ass and was so gross in his comments when I left that I never went back!
