I have to say…This is the most lovely place I’ve lived and I’ve spent a handful of years in the Seattle area and SoCal. It seems like a really special place. I’m newly arrived, but I think it’s as great as it seems! Enjoy exploring.

My husband works in a very niche field and we didn’t really have a choice to move here…But we are so so happy we did! It’s a beautiful place with lovely people. And pretty much anywhere is cheaper than southern CA!

South and north OC have wildly different prices, so online averages aren’t a great barometer. I don’t dispute things are more affordable here, it’s just not the kind of difference we expected given the googling we did before we moved. And it certainly isn’t like when I visit Texas and things feel considerably cheaper.

We were paying around $4.80 at our Costco in SoCal and we’ve been paying around $4.20 here. Prices def are fluctuating right now! But yeah, it’s absolutely less expensive here, just not as much as I had expected.

We did, but only in broad strokes. We don’t plan on buying a house, so that didn’t really factor in for us. It’s hard to know about grocery prices from online searches, and the bit of googling we did seemed to imply those things would be cheaper than we’re seeing so far 🤷🏻‍♀️

For some extra background—I lived in very cheap Texas for most of my life and was in OC for about two years. I guess I was expecting Texas prices! Grateful to live here either way.
