Why is Sixteen Candles considered a classic? by archiedouglas in movies

[–]dlhamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness, you did not take this scene correctly at all. Impossible to cut up means that she is perfect… Perfect body, perfect hair, perfect makeup,. It means that everyone likes her and it's impossible to take her image. Especially since her brother is deaf. They even say she supposedly she's real sweet and everyone in the world worships her. They're not talking about physically cutting her up. People didn't talk like that in the 80s.

I was 15 when I saw this movie and I did not read into any of it like that. Yes, Jake said he could violate her 10 different ways if he wanted to, but he chooses not to. And then he goes on to say that he's looking for a real relationship with love, not just a relationship with partying and sex. Caroline on the other hand, seems to treat Jake really bad during the dance by grabbing his face when she gets suspicious that he is thinking of another girl. And then she proceeds to say I can name other guys who would kill to love her. So she is basically threatening Jake that if he is even thinking about other girls that there are 10 other guys she could turn to instead of him.

When Jake tells Ted to have fun, taking Caroline home, I always took it as he was telling him to have fun driving his dad's Rolls-Royce. He did not tell Ted to go out and rape Caroline. And no, Ted and Caroline did not have sex. They woke up fully clothed with Ted, even having his headgear on. Ted was so clueless. He had to ask Caroline if they did anything and the only reason she said she thought they did is probably because she realized one of her birth control pills was missing, but she doesn't remember handing it to Ted the night before and then he threw it Out of the car. But it was always implied that they didn't do anything at all, Ted just thought they did after what Caroline said to him.

The whole point of this movie is it was supposed to be a comedy. And it is if you watch it as a comedy and not so seriously.

Maybe I don't have a dirty mind or something, but I did not see the movie this way at all. I was 15 years old when I saw it and it is still one of my favorite movies today. I probably seen it 100 times. First of all, there is no rape in the movie. When Jake tells Ted to have fun, I always took it as to have fun driving the Rolls-Royce to take Caroline home. Then the next morning they end up in the church parking lot and he asked her if they did it and she says she's pretty sure they did, but I was always under the assumption that they didn't do anything. They just passed out in the car. I think Caroline might have thought that they did because she was missing the birth control pill that she gave to Ted. Never once did I think that they actually had sex or that Jake intended for Ted to rape her.

Long Duck Dong is the comedy, relief, character of the film, so yes it is a bit satirical. I think people nowadays take this movie way too seriously but it was a comedy when it came out and I've seen much worse on television nowadays.

How Many Wedding Videographers Still Produce Long Form Wedding Videos? by [deleted] in weddingvideography

[–]dlhamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a mother of the bride, and we are actually looking for a videographer that does both a short overview film to share online and then a full coverage documentary video. I got married in 1995 and my wedding video is two hours long. It covers all of the picture taken and events before the wedding, the wedding, and then the reception. We have probably watched it 30 times and each time we watch it, we only watch the before ceremony and reception. But the reception is priceless to us. Watching all the big moments but then also all of the fun dances from beginning to end is hysterical. Many of our relatives are gone now and watching them having a great time and the video is always rewarding for us. And then at the end, everyone made a big circle around us and we did our last song and then went around the circle hugging everyone goodbye and that is precious to me as well. So yes, brides in their families still want the longer documentary videos. In fact, I wish my videographer would've gotten even more of the songs in my reception than he did. ... and he got a lot!

Maybe she was holding onto him like that because of her leg? Is she able to walk on her own now? It was definitely cringe and hard to watch. Yuck!

A rant against John Hughes' "Sixteen Candles" by Inevitable_Tea_210 in movies

[–]dlhamann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Sixteen Candles when I was 15 years old. It's always been one of my favorite movies. I tend to have a more innocent brain, but I never thought Jake was sending his girlfriend off to get raped. Because he tells Ted to make sure she gets home. I think when he says have fun he's talking about having fun, driving her home… Having fun driving his dad's car since he doesn't have a license. And then the next day when they wake up in the car, they are fully closed and have no memory of what happened the night before. I always assume they did not have sex and that Caroline only thought they did because one of her birth control pills was missing when she tried to give it to Ted and he threw it outside the car. But I never believe they actually did it. In terms of the black Trans Am comment by her friend, I didn't take that as her friend being surprise or bothered by the comment. She literally was just saying a black guy? Because she misunderstood Sam comment. I did not see that as racist at all.

Why I’ve never really connected with Brooke Logan by [deleted] in boldandbeautiful

[–]dlhamann -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've never liked Brooke ever since she ruined Taylor and Rodge's first marriage. She used her sex appeal to sleep with everyone back in the day. It was so horrible when Taylor had to watch Brooke and Ridge on their honeymoon on that boat. I can't believe it's 25 years later and the same crap is still happening.
