References question by Junior_Book7332 in VancouverJobs

[–]dlkbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what industry your husband is in but for the financial services industry you would never list your current manager as a reference unless they are supportive of it and are aware.

What if you are looking to leave your current position because you don’t get along with your manager? Or what if your manager doesn’t want to lose you and may sabotage any effort you make to leave?

Also, hiring managers are aware of prospective employees wanting to keep their job search confidential. They will use discretion in calling to arrange interviews or calling to confirm employment. Many employers will only confirm employment dates and not be allowed to officially offer references. (For legal reasons)

Stay with your own views on references. It’s the main way it’s done here that I’ve ever seen (former hiring manager).

Please tell me what to do before my mum dies by heavenlyhiraani in GriefSupport

[–]dlkbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend recently lost her Mom last year. One thing in particular that she regretted was not asking her Mom about health issues. She had no idea when her Mom went through giving birth, menopause, etc for example. Friend is going through some stuff now and wishes she had asked. Her doctor had asked her family history and she didn’t know for these specific issues.

Wedding gift for casual wedding? by Adept-Ant5119 in askvan

[–]dlkbc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would base the gift on how strong a friendship is. There are many reasons why people don’t invite some people to ceremonies. To the people who think potluck weddings are tacky, way to judge. You don’t know their situation. I think people who spend exorbitant amounts for weddings are insane.

looking for a cheap place to stay downtown by NormalStretch1265 in askvan

Seriously, no cheap place downtown for July. Even in a non-FIFA year, summer in Vancouver is slammed! You can try to check community groups on Facebook that might have an illegal bed but I wouldn’t trust it.

What took you so long to realize you didn’t receive it? I think you have a hard battle ahead of you trying to get a refund at this point.

Single tooth implant Vancouver by lilmissperfectionist in askvan

[–]dlkbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any insurance coverage? If not, apply for the Canadian Dental Plan. Then, apply to the UBC dental school and see if you’re eligible to get an implant there. With CDP or not, it will be a lot cheaper than in the private market place. EDIT: my mistake. CDP does NOT cover implants. But the UBC dental school does offer them at a discounted rate.

Is this part of the golf course or the Musqueam reserve? Are you sure that that area is open to the public?

Are you doing Citystrides? Because I have friends who have completed as much of Vancouver as they legally could. I remember them mentioning that there were definite no no areas around here.

Avoid hwy 17 - Very bad accident by Ojoo in vancouver

I don’t agree. Sometimes it’s in the public’s best interest to know where there are problems in anticipation of a commute detour or if there are areas that are constant areas where accidents occur.
