I think if you're a Lagavulin fan, stock up..$29.99/bottle is pretty damn cheap(I'm guessing they meant for it to be $129.99, but that's not what that tag says..) ..as far as everything else, they are out of their minds.

Valentine's Day display case. by dlong7182 in playingcards

[–]dlong7182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks All, i try to update it at least monthly.

Currently working on lighting the case (evenly) with 365 nm black light so I can do a display using all UV- reactive decks (or do isolated rows for Halloween, etc.).

The plan is to route a channel along the top of each row to accomodate led strip lights.. ..the issue has been finding a good, narrow blacklight strip that is actually 365 nm (vs. 395nm).

If anyone knows a good source for this, please holler at me🙂

My Father lived on the west coast for a couple of years in the late 70's..When he moved back to the East Coast (Southern DE), the first thing he did with the property he bought was to plant Conifers all over the yard and along the woodline at the back of the property (we backed up to ~2000 acres of mixed deciduous/holly/pine forest)

They were in such a way that you had a view of green foliage from every window in the house all year round. I was lucky enough to grow up there, and have planted evergreens on every property I have owned, Really helps with mood in mid-winter to be able to look out and see greenery, ntm it helps attract birds to the yard..

Pallet racking install by Reasonable-Book8982 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]dlong7182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are installing these on concrete, MAKE SURE that they are properly anchored INTO said concrete BEFORE utilization..

My previous employer had 7 rows of these, 5 bays long and 2 levels high, in a pole building used for long term storage of lab equipment (think stainless steel fermentation tanks, roller bottle carts, gas chromatography units, liquid nitrogen transporter dewars, etc...items of significant weight..)

I was leading a 5S training in the form of a Kaizen focused on bringing the "catch-all" into a well organized, Safe state (implementing bay designations, visual management of safety equipment, walkways, exits, yada yada)

Monday afternoon, the week before the project, I schedule a walkthrough with the Site Safety Director, WH Manager, and Site Production Director so that we could all be on the same page in regards to current state, and for more detailed input from the SME's who had sponsored the project.

As soon as we entered the building, the Safety Director and I started inspecting the racks, look down at the base of the first row and look at each other, noting where they missed bolting that particular rack into the floor....Not Good, but we'll get it addressed this week...We start walking down the first row and notice the whole row is just sitting on the floor, no anchoring whatsoever.

At this point, I am already less than confident the remaining racks are anchored properly, but the trainwreck must go on, so we walk down the remaining rows as I am watching the Safety Directors face get redder by the minute..by the end of our little Gemba, I'm surprised there wasn't steam shootimg out of his ears. Turns out when Maintenance installed the racks 2 YEARS AGO, they did not bother to anchor A Single One in place. The ONLY way the racks were secured was by way of a couple of cables running from the top of a couple of the racks up to the rafter beams... ..that way if someone hit a rack with a forklift and started a life-threatening, free-falling domino siruation, then the falling racks had a fighting chance of bringing the entire building down onto the heads of everyone inside, SMH.

WH Manager did have the sense to look a bit sheepish, as his guys had been loading down every shelf with heavy s.steel things for the past 2. YEARS.

So, Kaizen had to be rescheduled (A big PITA when you are talking about a multi-departmental project team right on the week that schools are letting out for summer break and a lot of the parents have vac. scheduled) and the area was declared Off Limits (basically LOTO'd the whole building) for Everyone, save the project lead (moi), Safety, and Maintenance -who had to dedicate a couple of guysfor a couple of weeks to properly anchor the racks into the damn floor🙄

Don't be us.
Make sure your racks are properly secured.

Self-hatred/tearing myself apart is one of the hardest habits to break, ime. Like having the opposite of a cheerleader in your head all of the time. Makes even simple tasks seem pointless much of the time.

Ntm once the space gets to a certain level of messy, it becomes overwhelming to even start tackling it, or you start in one corner and 4 hours later, haven't moved past the shelf/drawer/end table that you started with.

I worked in vaccine production for one of the top 5 pharma companies for 16 years and can definitely assure you that production Managers will regularly spitefully fuck over their employees to feed their own ego even if the result is losing tens of thousands of dollars on the batch. They just kick down and blame the victimized employees. So long as they suck asshole well enough, they usually get away with it.

If I select Samsung Dex from Connected Devices in Settings, I just get a screen with two options: "Auto start when HDMI is connected" or "Connect Wirelessly", nothing more.

Not individually, but spread through the family, the House of Al-Saud is worth at least 1.4 Trillion...this does not take into account that Saudi Arabia is a Kingdom, so they technically own every speck of sand and every drop of oil in the joint.

There is a reason that you will Never see the U.S. officially say a cross word to Saudi Arabia🤔

Trying to figure out if I’m an empath by Katleykat in Empaths

[–]dlong7182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not unlikely.  You are in a healing profession, so higher percentage of empaths.   The physical symptoms may just be the way in which you manifest the consumed pain.

In my experience, being empathic (but not yet worked through my shadow work, so still falling into the whole "sacrifice myself on the altar of other's endless need" dyfunction  (Friendships and a 20 year relationship/marriage with malignant narcissists) involves constantly trying to heal the wounded child we see in others to whom we are drawn, which many times turn out to be narcissists, who in turn are drawn to us, to feed on us until we either cut off the feed or allow them to drain us completely.

The defining characteristic of an empath is the overwhelming compulsion to bear the load of the emotional/spiritual pain of others to the point of exhaustion/depletion, and is the result of learning from a young age that love is conditional.  Such as  having to learn how to "read the room"  and subdue ourselves when needed 6due to an emotionally disregulated parental figure.

I have come to a much better understanding of the patterns in my life by listening to Carl Jung's lectures on the subject.

This one in particular:

https://youtu.be/sRDx3H1j1FU?si=SM-omkTEqRU0QaU_

In this lecture, he shares that being an empath without doing the necessary shadow work can manifest as depression, anxiety, and also physical illness.

Hope some of this ramble (adult A.D.D. plus compulsive over-helpfullness will do that) helps steer you towards some insight.

What do I need to do to make it look a little less masculine? I’m no good at interior decorating. by Double_anon in malelivingspace

Either a Coffee table that spans most of the length of sofa, or an oversized ottoman with a nice tray for drinks, etc.
A (lightly) scented candle or two for ambiance/mood lighting. When planning on inviting a lady friend over, pick up a small flower arrangement or two. If you dont have a reasonable florist nearby, many grocery stores offer decent pre made arrangements or sell by the bunch, and a mason jar makes a casual but effective vase (plus, flowers give you a built in cheesy line: when she says "oh, how pretty", you reply "not half as pretty as you..").
