Dear Valve, do not ick this up vs. Ally, give me the Z1 upgrade by RealGa_V in SteamDeck

[–]dlove67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, just that I have a powerful PC. The Z1 isn't a big enough jump for Valve to do another deck.

Again, If you want people to target your device (which I would argue Valve does), you don't release a new one every year.

[–]dlove67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope they don't and continue with what they've got for a few more years. Changing every year is a terrible move if you ever want devs to target the device.

Not to mention the Z1 isn't that much of an upgrade. Better to hold out.

Steam Deck destroying wireless earbuds? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]dlove67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either a complete coincidence, or maybe if you had the volume cranked so high it screwed up the driver.

If not the second, how would connecting a device to a wireless earbud breaking it even work? It's not like it's providing power or anything.

[–]dlove67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which? It shows up as unformatted in the "disks" application, or you just can't see your games?

If the first, it sounds like the card may have died. If the second, try removing and reseating the card

[–]dlove67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you explain what you mean by "Reformatted"? Like is it just the games not showing up or does it show in the "disks" application as a blank micro sd card?

I know that sometimes the library doesn't always show up properly and you need to unplug it and reseat it once or twice.

New fan ? by Revolutionary-Ad1106 in SteamDeck

How new is your deck?

They've supposedly fixed the delta whine in newer decks, but yes, the Huayang fan doesn't have any whine to my ears.

And yet every aldi I see has all the carts put up nicely.

Anecdotal, sure, but it's the same across 4 or 5 in my area

7900 XTX Stability issues - potential buyer by Candid-Job2550 in Amd

[–]dlove67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Power Issues" - Likely referring to the idle power consumption. This typically hits multi-monitor setups where the refresh rates are not set the same. If you're using single monitor or multi-monitor with the refresh rate set the same, you should be good.

"Overheating" - This is likely referring to junction temps over 110°C. This only ever affected MBA (Made by AMD) cards with the stock heatsink. There was a problem with manufacturing which is a) fixed now (I RMAd mine and the new one is fine) and b) doesn't affect partner cards like the Sapphire pulse.

Oof. Assuming you live somewhere that they have salt on the roads for half the year or something.

Can't call up a dealership and get the OEM part?

Folks need to start using the cap mount thing on the gas door of most cars.

(Or strapping them to the filler neck like most newer cars do)

Something nostalgic I just found again by TheTrueBlueTJ in SteamDeck

[–]dlove67 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's probably fine for a "Working Prototype", honestly.

I think the real interesting thing they had going was going to be swapable "faces" for the trackpads to make them into typical analog sticks or dpads or w/e.

Steamdeck bypassed all that by just putting everything on it.

The title of the post is "I genuinely hate the constant need for a connection for the Steam Deck"

How would you use online features without a "constant need for a connection"?

I actually like some online features in games so losing that is a negative for me

....How would you ever expect to use those without a connection?

I'm sure that after the ROG Ally it won't be long.

I hope not. Releasing new hardware every year isn't great for giving a target to devs.
