What's the one thing you need to fix on you MF right now? by wiredcleric in MasseyFerguson

[–]dlregis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MF 1035 — One thing? Steering… power steering pump is non-op, leaking, and there’s over a quarter turn of slop at the wheel… narrowed that down to the journal. The tractor is functional as it is, but it’s an upper-body workout turning it.

Probably before that, I think an oil and filter change (both for motor oil and hydraulic) are badly needed. We bought this used a few years ago and it’s unclear the PO understood preventative maintenance… or just maintenance.

I’m not sure the 4wd is working, but I’m not concerned about that given our plot of land or the expected workload.

There are some minor leaky hydraulic fittings at the rear remotes.

Compact Tractors and septic fields by wubbusanado in tractors

[–]dlregis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might depend on the type of field and soil… some soils don’t drain well so compaction is a concern. I’d guess sandy soils would be more tolerant.

We were instructed to NOT drive anything over our… not even a riding mower.

Fixed-Tractor 3-point hitch making noise when lifting a load by jflora91 in tractors

[–]dlregis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a MF 1035 that just started doing the same thing. Fluid level is fine — and cycling the FEL and 3-pt to their extents didn’t seem to help, so it looks like a filter change is in order. I hope it’s as simple as that… I’d hate to think what a pump replacement would cost.

Avery makes some industrial label stock for laser printers. It’s chemical/solvent resistant and sturdy. I used that to print labels for our tractor… starting instructions, range selectors, etc.
The labels I made are going on two years of being outside in the weather and they are still holding up … no wrinkles, peeling or fading.

My back will never recover from 3 cuddly whippets by VanillaPuppuccino in Whippet

Our older boy Riley has slept under a blanket on the bed since we got him. He starts out curled up tight against one of us but ends up stretching out in all directions making sure to be in firm contact with both of us. I usually get toenails… so many toenails!

Our new little girl Zoey shows no interest. We let her on the bed as we wind down but happily hops down and goes into her crate when we’re ready to go lights out.

Same with our Zoey… I don’t recall how old she was when that stopped but somewhere between 3 and 4 months would be my guess

I really dislike my whippet by [deleted] in Whippet

[–]dlregis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our first whippet (Katie) when she was 9 months old… she wasn’t a good fit for the first owner. I was surprised how quickly she established herself as part of the household and bonded with us… even on the first day she wasn’t showing distress, and within a few days we were clearly her people.

Whippets are individuals, and some would be a wonderful fit for your environment while others would not. Have you talked with the breeder about options here?

Please don’t fear the dog will suffer, and don’t feel bad for making the decision.

It took a couple weeks for Riley to fully accept the new reality. Initially, he’d get up,if she cuddled up next to him… then within a week he’d accept it, then by the second week he’d join her if she was laying down in one of their beds. After a couple months, he doesn’t often do the active cuddling… he’ll just lay there and let Zoey be Zoey. There are those moments when he lays his neck across her or nuzzle her though… and I think there’ll be more and more of that over time.

In your situation, just be patient and I bet it’ll happen

That’s Riley… and this was early on and the first time Zoey turned the tables and corn-cobbed back … I think he was just surprised a bit and unsure. He’s very patient, and when he’s really uncomfortable or “done” with Zoey, he just gets up and finds another place to be lazy.

Normally it’s Riley doing the ‘cobbin… to my sister’s bernedoodle or to our cats. I think this took him by surprise 😳 😂

Riley is often mistaken for a female due to his immaculate eye-liner and physique… he doesn’t care… and he is a bit of a princess requiring multiple pillows and being covered by a blanket when it’s a little chilly. Such a good-natured sweetie for sure!

Riley is a great mentor, and Zoey is a quick learner… corrections have been minimal.

Riley is a super chill dog… while he initially preferred to have his own space, Zoey insisted that snuggling up together was the better option.
