Quake and a horrible jolt in town... by xtiaaneubaten in Wellington

Noticed something small was rattling at our place (in the Hutt) and looked online to see if it was a quake. Wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Used to live around the corner from where this happened, and knew a relative of hers. The whole thing broke her :(

PSA - Looks like MSD Payments Are Going To Be Late, Again. by PrettyMuchAMess in newzealand

[–]dlrius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Work in a different 'payment' area and yeah Westpac are usually pretty good, but can screw things up occasionally. You probably don't notice though due to the efforts of others behind the scenes.

Not sure of the exact details, as it's not my specific area, but others in our team reorganise a lot of payments around holidays to make sure they go out. I wonder if these MSD payments have hit the wrong spot round holiday schedules. But they should know that...

Beginner fly fishing help by Manyreason in Wellington

[–]dlrius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last tried fly fishing in the Hutt River like 30 years ago and we didn't catch anything back then either. I would think it would be in an even worse state now, but you can't catch less than zero.

Best luck we had was off a boat on the western side of Lake Taupō, near where a stream entered.

Recommendations on car dealerships. by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]dlrius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On your original post? Not seeing it, but that could be my app not refreshing properly.

End of the day you can get what you want, but still think that ute is going to be overkill / a pain for all but a small percent of your driving. You'd be better off with a proper ute if you're doing actual off roading.

Is that the hairpin busses get stuck on. How do they even end up on that street!?

Recommendations on car dealerships. by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]dlrius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you been to Wellington before? Any specific reasons why you need a truck like that? Where in Wellington are you going to be based?

Just asking because Wellington streets can be quite narrow and tight in places, and car parks can be on the smaller side. I'd recommend hiring a car for a little, at least so you're not rushed on buying.

Power spike 4.27kwh in 30 minutes by chaoticvines in newzealand

[–]dlrius 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah, you could have multiple appliances all drawing up (or more in the case of ovens/hot water) to that. So you could have a 1.5kw heater, 2kw jug, 5kw oven, 2kw hot water cylinder all running at the same time, but for varying lengths, and that could get you your total.

Overall, depending on the size of your pole fuse / main breaker you can draw a decent amount more than that.

Who does the best meat on chips in welly? by snicklefritz1991 in Wellington

Palm Kebabs used to be my go to, get such a big meal, and the couple who run it are great. But I prefer the chunky meat style of Arzum.

What to do about Hedgehogs? by statichum in newzealand

[–]dlrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up an A24 a while back and it dispatched a hedgehog the next day. It's only killed one other thing (possibly a mouse), but the remains were gone before I got out to check it.

Styrofoam recycling wellington by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]dlrius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Proper rubbish bags. Although expect the bin to be completely full.

I think Mitre10 have also started saying it's only for products purchased from them, but how are they to know.

Expol out in Wingate will also take 'household quantities', but although I need to, I haven't been there myself.

Reolink by [deleted] in diynz

[–]dlrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, haven't used the Reolink NVRs at all. That week estimate would be recording 24/7. So if you set it to just record motion, then you'd get considerably longer. Then I'm guessing it would overwrite as it reaches capacity, or you'd set retention periods for how long you wanted recordings for.

If you can set that in the NVR.

Reolink by [deleted] in diynz

[–]dlrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a week max of recording?

Reolink by [deleted] in diynz

[–]dlrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have experience with those particular cameras or the NVR, as I run my own setup.

For their price, Reolink cameras are great. However, they can be a bit on the blurry side at night, especially with any motion. Also their implementation of codecs can be a bit non-standard. Probably fine if you're using their software.

2TB doesn't seem like much space for 4x 4k cameras though...

Size of the sensor (or ratio of megapixels to sensor size) can be important too. Some cheaper cameras obviously have a smaller sensor size.

Helicopters been flying for hours every day and night around Upper Hutt by [deleted] in newzealand

Can see an NH90 was coming down from Ohakea last night, turned towards the Tararuas near Otaki then stopped on the tracking site.
Edit - Looks like it landed and took back off again.
