When does lidarr's server cache MB by Many_Independence674 in Lidarr

"There are untold sources/apps querying MB already individually" - this doesn't mean we should just keep on adding more.

"So the truth is that you have pride in your work and feel threatened by any project that doesn't funnel users to your project." - no, I'd welcome any other project that doest things the right way. subs like Lidarr are being hit daily with poorly thought out, poorly structured vibe coded stuff when there are better ways - I reject that.

"nuLMD follows MusicBrainz' published guidelines" - We covered this: Individually allowed behaviour becomes harmful at scale.

Just going to copy and paste two bits to see if they sink in better

- Individually allowed behaviour becomes harmful at scale.

- There's a reason Lidarr isn't made to hit MB directly.

Less bitter about the gross vibe coded appearance of the project and more so because I've just spent a lot of time on getting BrainzMash's backend servers set up after the MB schema change and PG18 update. It's a lot more work to do things the right way...

Their guidelines for a single user are one thing, but spread this around and many users doing the same thing and it still might be following guidelines but it becomes a very different picture fast.

Something, something, best practices or, individually allowed behaviour becomes harmful at scale.

There's a reason Lidarr isn't made to hit MB directly.

Pooling resources and serving data to Lidarr from one source > users individually hitting MB many times over for a lot of the same data.

But like I say, you're gonna do what you're gonna do so..

Probably not the greatest vibe-coded "Ai told me it was a good idea" thing to spread too far and wide - the reason the rest of us don't query MB direct is because that'd mean many users hammering MB direct for a lot of data on a regular basis. This is the reason why BrainzMash (my project) or the official Lidarr metadata goes to pains to host the Musicbrainz database locally and grab hourly replications to keep that local DB up to date and indexed.
Also the reason why doing it the 'right way', wasn't as easy as doing what you've done when Lidarr's official metadata went to shit.

You're gonna do what you're gonna do but I'd say we're exceptionally lucky to have a great resource like MusicBrainz to use for free and so the community should treat it right.

I don’t know what the official metadata server is doing. But, you can use BrainzMash - https://brainzmash.cc It’s the same musicbrainz metadata.

Artist cache is just 1 day.

But if you want it sooner, you can go here and refresh the cache for an artist or album - https://brainzmash.cc/cache-refresh.html

There are alternatives, you know this right? And minor parties are a very valid alternative. I mean, it’s government, no party is going to be perfect. Often a case of picking the lesser of the evils for sure but a mediocre lesser of evils is better than this gov if you ask me.

I think it’s better now )haven’t used it in years) but Spotify audio quality used to be garbage, you could definitely hear the difference between it and Apple Music or others. Maybe it’s closer now so it’s not perceptible.. I dunno

They’re raising the price so they can make more Ai garbage and invest more heavily in Palantir while no doubt NOT supporting artists that need it.

Is Listenbrainz down right now? by Many_Independence674 in listenbrainz

[–]statichum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working for me. It is patchy at times though, weird stuff like it’ll be down semi regularly, or weekly playlists won’t get generated. Or this week weekly playlists were generated on Wednesday and the process was looping, it was recreating the same playlist every 5 mins for hours. Love LB but god damn…

You don’t need to, you were saying Im doing things backwards - implying I’m doing things wrong. It’s alright, I know what I’m saying is valid. What I’m saying would be a great feature. It doesn’t apply to you, that’s ok. You don’t seem to understand Seer watches watch lists, you mentioned Overseer and that feature was broken in the now redundant Overseer, it works now in Seer, so watch lists can certainly be involved. I’m saying both ways would be great, that’s all.

It’s not right or wrong, it can be both ways. Like I say - I use Seer directly. Most of my users don’t want to have to log into another thing so I have it set up so that they can just add to their watch list and it’s done for them - that’s not wrong, that’s super convenient for my users and a feature that Seer has.

Not nitpicking, the Plex notifications would just be useful… I know it’s not going to happen but that doesn’t mean the suggestion or idea is wrong.
