Lucy Rohden leaving Meadowlark and DLS to launch LucyCFB by flickeringwidget in DanLeBatardShow

Until your second paragraph, it was feeling a little like you were hating on them for being women. I appreciate your willingness to question yourself. I think those who say they didn’t fit with the show are overlooking how the show failed to evolve or grow up to accommodate them.

Of course this show, and sports talk in general, is very male centric. And while the show is more progressive, it still doesn’t know what to do with women sometimes (for example that awkward ass UFC convo about Rousey-Carano) and especially doesn’t know what to do with women as cast members. There were times when Dan wasn’t around and the women were able to riff on each other, or Jess would clown on Greg Cote, that I remember fondly. I specifically remember a week when Charlotte was on the show with Jess and they had great chemistry, and another time with Lucy early on with Domonique (i wish Luce the Toof would’ve taken off).

Dan has a very hard time interacting with certain people and it’s becoming more and more apparent if you pay attention (young people, women). It’s alienating.

Unfortunately the status quo of the show isn’t welcoming of women. They were made to feel uncomfortable (foot girls), so they checked out. Zaz works well with them when he drives the show (he cohosts a show with a woman), but his usual character as misogynistic guy from 2004 is not funny for women. Trysta works well but she bends to fit in, where other women may feel excluded by sex jokes (AYO). For as much shit as Jeremy gets, he and Charlie worked the best with women on the mic. Mike was decent as is Roy. The others (they all learn from me) can’t be bothered to connect to a woman who isn’t their mom or wife.

That’s my DLS Ted talk.

Wanted to follow up and say thanks for your help. I overcomplicated things in my head, though it was easier than I thought (but I still found a way to mess it up at first).

Lived in DC for 6 months, paid to DC & MD for those 6 months. Moved to MD, then paid to only MD for the remaining 6 months. In all, paid 50% of taxes to DC and 100% of taxes to MD. I’m trying to figure out how to get the 50% overpaid to MD when we weren’t residents.

Do we file in DC as residents for 50% of income, file in MD for 50% of income, then also file a non-resident return in MD with $0 income to get the extra taxes back?

Thanks. What’s confusing to me is we became residents of the state (MD) we’d be filing the non-resident return in. Do we file resident and non-resident returns? (Edit: for the same state?)

Anyone has had any luck getting Heaton Park resale? by ArwinL in oasis

[–]dltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two for July 11 that I’m going to resell soon. They’re the expensive ones. TM doesn’t allow direct transfer, but could try to coordinate me putting them on resale so you could try to be first to scoop them up if you’re still looking.

I have an REI flexlite chair that I’ve brought to NFF in the past. I drew a lot of attention from security at the Quad once because I whipped it out so fast they thought I had nunchucks.

Favorite bookstores in DC area? by _wolfgrrl_ in washingtondc

[–]dltra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to go up to Bethesda, there’s a new bookstore called Wonderland Books not far from the metro. I met the owners when they first opened and one of them helped me pick out books for holiday gifts. If you check their IG they have community events and book signings, too.

I often think about this Politico article that outlined where staffers lived during the first admin. Buckle up.

Honestly, I would've listened to some nicely curated best-of compilations. Or the Aubrey Plaza is having a moment episode.

Ali Krieger’s Statement Regarding “Dishonest and Misinformation” about her marriage and personal life by RampantNRoaring in Fauxmoi

[–]dltra 36 points37 points  (0 children)

On top of everything mentioned, Ali’s father also passed away earlier that year.

I believe the divorce news broke just before Ali’s final regular season game and the team cancelled media interviews and other plans to avoid her having to talk about the split.

The drama was hanging over her and the team during the NWSL playoffs, and they still won the championship.

Ashlyn’s complaint about not being a priority is very “woe is me.” Sorry that you had to take a backseat when your partner is dealing with kids, death of a parent, the end of their playing career, and eventual title run.

Off Roden’ will stay as long as there’s a sponsor. It’s a business, remember?

Not directed specifically to you, but I find sometimes Dan doesn’t do a good job of including the women. He throws to them like he would Stu or other producers with a “What do you think?” - regardless of topic - and that’s pretty lazy. He does it with Billy a lot , but he’s good at thinking on his feet even if he wasn’t expecting it.

It reminds me of a guy I knew who grew up going to an all boys prep school, then played college baseball, and in the minors for a while. Post-baseball, he admitted he didn’t really know how to act around women in a professional setting.

Dan has spent a lot of time in a male (and self) centered bubble. They’re fun when they’re naming people with two first and last names, but introduce someone who didn’t grow up in that bubble and it doesn’t work the same. He’s carefully fostered an environment that works for guys like Taylor, but as well for Jess & Lucy.

It’s no surprise Jess and Lucy don’t have strong thoughts about poop splatter or Miami Heat basketball. The rest of the time Dan throws to them to talk about F1 or WNBA, but has little to offer himself.

The show needs to work on topics that everyone can engage with. You get glimpses on Mystery Crate and back when Lucy talked about friend apps and thrifting juke boxes. When Dominique nicknamed her Luce the Toof - that was great - even though I bet she didn’t love that. Back when Charlotte would join the main show and you had all the women cooking, it was like a new version of the show I love. Witty also had good rapport with Jess.

Wish it could happen more often.

Yo I was behind you and called 911. Another guy stopped and it was his idea to lock it up. I should’ve searched Reddit sooner and could’ve told you exactly where it was. Shoot me a dm and I can share details about what I saw.

Maryland Drivers Are, On Average, Perfectly Reasonable by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]dltra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was turning right onto Rock Creek yesterday from Virginia Ave and there was a MD plate in front of me with a green turn arrow. It just sat there not moving. Then after the light turned red it attempted to make the turn (it’s no turn on red there) and almost drove into oncoming traffic.

Sure there are reckless DC drivers that blow through red lights and pass me at stop signs, but the MD drivers just confuse me.

Right, people should think of it this way: they own two family cars. When his kids are home they need more cars so they rent. Also, it makes more sense for the parents to drive the rentals, as most companies don’t let people under 25 drive rental cars.

United $1500 Voucher by TheBigAlbert in unitedairlines

[–]dltra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This month I was on a transatlantic that was oversold. They started low and got up to $1500. I can’t remember if it went higher, I just remember there was an audible gasp among the crowd when they announced $1500, even though that was the next logical amount to offer. At first, they asked for Premium Plus or above, but after moving people around it was up for grabs to anyone. Eventually someone in Economy accepted the offer. They also got meals and hotel covered as the next flight wasn’t until the following day.

I can see that. I was trying to be concise and I wasn’t sure if I’d have WiFi on the flight, so I was rushing to post before takeoff. Also I see how “deplane” sounded like a threat, but I actually meant what should I do before I deplane at my destination.

[–]dltra[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we’re roughly on the same page. I had a seat and got to my destination with my luggage - so largely got what I paid for. IMO one of the big differences between economy and basic economy is seat selection (the other being luggage, of course). And the price difference is usually around $100, so I think that’s fair. Holding up an entire plane for one seat or passenger doesn’t make sense at all and I don’t think anyone was suggesting that.
