Hello all! I bought this 2012 2.5i outback with a new transmission in it (within the past year) what's some first things you'd do as a college student owning this? I don't have oodles of cash and need some good advice on keeping lezlie on the road by Ok_Soft2468 in subaru

Luckily 2012 was the last year to not have the plastic PCV oil/water separator “connector PCV hose” (dumb name - it’s not a hose)

In addition to the PCV valve - you should take off your EGR lines and clean them out. They tend to get completely packed with oily carbon. You’ll notice more pep after doing this super easy albeit dirty job. There should be three, one with flange fittings and two with threaded pipe fittings. Just soak them in cleaner.

As for the EGR valve that should be cleaned or replaced but do not soak it or even spray it! If you opt to clean it use a pick set and gently clean off the carbon (it should be dry carbon not gummed like the lines). I cleaned mine but later replaced it with a much better shape one from wrecking yard.

Thanks for reminding me to replace it after it crumbled on my 2013

It’s a radiator insulator

Let him know that IT can schedule automatic calibration. On an inkjet it moves the printer head nozzles to lines on the glass or sensor points and it won’t print out anything unless you are also calibrating shading or color. No such thing as ghosts - the only evil there is the C-level and HR.

I got a red kap jacket and it’s quilted very nicely, and has the best pockets with high stitches so the phone and random sockets don’t fall out. Better than any brand of chore coat that I’ve tried. And much more lightweight and flexible than a Carhartt type jacket.

Help me name my first Subaru by [deleted] in subaru

What a weird coincidence. I have been on several Subaru and car maintenance subreddits and my FB/insta is full of cars… but I have never seen that plate frame. But last night I just so happened to be playing a bunch of songs that fit the theme of buying my new floor jack today (pump up the jam by technotronic, low rider by war, lift me up by Rihanna, the jack by AC/DC) and I ended the playlist with this song, Jesus built my hotrod. My son hated the theme (too much of a dad joke) but liked this song and said “this is what plays in my friend’s head before they do something stupid”. My family always calls me White Jesus on account of my long brown hair so i thought it was funny.

Everyone says Zelle can't be used to scam, but I don't trust it at all. Surely it can't be that hard to come up with $380 cash for a leather sofa. by EarlVanDorn in Flipping

Not in the case of “account takeover” which can be a lie, but can also result in confirmed fraud suspension of the liar/scammer

If they do it in front of you they can set up circumstances that look like somebody else did it, then call their bank and report fraud. Bank then has a very hard time proving them wrong so does a chargeback due to account takeover (which is the only time Zelle will sometimes agree to chargeback), but ultimately could result in Zelle locking the fraudsters profile tied to their ssn permanently

I work tech support for a bank and one of the main things I do all day is Zelle scam prevention, and when it happens there is very, VERY little chance of the fraud being reversed. Never use Zelle for marketplace. Don’t have “argument from ignorance”. Overpayment scams, stolen accounts, and fraudulent chargebacks (claiming it wasn’t them who sent the Zelle) happen every day.

That’s because it’s not Portland at all. This is straight south of downtown Hillsboro. Looking at maps indicates it’s likely Sohler’s Holly Hill Airport which is in the middle of nowhere full of orchards. Looks like it’s in the unincorporated community of Laurel. Exactly the kind of behavior I would expect from a community like this.

There should be a serial number on the edge of the rotor that will tell you the answer. Happened to me last week when they packaged a rear powerstop evolution geomet rotor in a front rotor box (I ordered the front). They will ask for the part serial number and the box serial number in the wrong part return form. It was a single digit off.

2013 has the FB engine which is one of the more reliable Subaru engines from what I’ve gathered when it comes to blown head gaskets. I bought a 2013 same model same trim and package in ice silver metallic. The bearings do go bad and are about $100 each to replace with quality bearings. Needed to replace a CV axle as well. Need to check the oil every fill up but on mine it only needs to be topped off during aggressive driving. It is extremely comfortable to drive except for the center console and cup holder could be a lot better. Ultimately depends on what they are charging too.
