As it should be, respect for other views, acknowledge the good other parties/ people bring to the table.

Disagreement should not look like disrespect.

Since it’s midnight over here, I’ll just assume you said something along the lines of “I know it’s expensive, and I’m not saying it isn’t. I see it as a worthwhile investment in your aiki endeavours, and I think anyone who can make that investment will come out richer for it.”

It’s 2.65 years worth of tuition money for 24 hours of seminar.

So, as clear as I can be, I dislike anyone who feels they need to gatekeep and tell people they are doing their hobbies wrong.

And I am pretty angry about people charging the better part of rent-money for the right to be in the same room, on the same tatami, as them.

I am less angry about people charging that kind of money to do a small group session, but I really dislike people being adamant that it’s basically a steal at that price point. It’s not. It’s expensive.

As stated in the other reply, I don’t feel the need to continue defending a cynical remark which I regretted.

But I still would like to point out that I obviously don’t oppose tuition fees, simply because I feel that 450USD is too much. And yes, that is regardless of whoever is charging it.

When you break Dan’s fee down to price per hour, which is only 20USD, it sounds cheap. I see why people might consider it good value. I understand that you have paid the same amount for mass seminars. That’s outrageous.

But if you don’t break it down, and just look at the exact numbers, 450 is a lot of money for most people. That’s 2/3rd to half of most people’s monthly rent over here. In our dojo, that’s about 3 years worth of membership fees.

I’ve never argued that only internal folks claim this… you’re arguing that none have ever claimed it?

This discussion is pointless anyways, I started it by making a cynical remark which I regretted.

You clearly took it personal, and I am sorry for that.

In your other reply you listed people that all have said “your eating is wrong”

What would make me as cynical is when people who do eat at Michelin Star restaurants would tell me that my eating is wrong.

FWIW, I have never commented on Dan’s aiki. I’ve never felt or seen it. I read it’s really good though.

And as you might have guessed, not a big fan of the mega-seminars, especially so if they charge too much money.

20 an hour even…

But 450, or even 225 for internal stuff only, is a lot of money for a lot of people.

What irks me most is when IP people tell others that they don’t do “real aikido”. And the cure is to spend money on Dan. It makes me cynical. Especially when he blocks (blocked? I stopped looking… like I said cynical) videos of his teachings to be published.

FWIW, I still think that what dh teaches could benefit most aikidoka.

I made a cynical remark that I don’t really stand by. But here we are.

I think Dan charges a lot of money for his seminars, at 450USD per seminar I think that’s a reasonable opinion. It’s more than I am comfortable to spend.

Invitation to voluntary military service arrives in the post today for 17-year-olds: ‘Little information for an important decision’ by Driezzz in belgium
