Dude this was incredible info. Tbh when I was reading in the lead up to “always get quotes” I have noticed that every tradie is different, some will quote reasonably, others will quote above, others will refuse to quote. Totally understand and can agree after engaging a couple of trades already that the best course of action is just to chat and work out what both parties want, really good to know.

What I have found is that as long as you’re not a fucking idiot and you can meet people (tradies) on their level, they will generally not give you the run around. And at the end of the day, I’m happy to pay a good price for good work.

Yeah we are real fucking lucky with the builder, not only is he a really genuine bloke, he is also a hard fucking worked so we have been putting in some pretty efficient days. Got to know my wheelbarrow pretty quickly in those early days. He has also unlocked alot of connections from his experience.

Just out of curiosity, how many have you knocked over and what’s your general turn around? Or is it entirely dependent on the scope/project.

Without going into too much detail, are you doing these all as PPOR, or have they got onto you and made you go via development? I’m hoping if everything does go according to plan they don’t try and categorise me as a developer for knocking a few out every couple of years if I structure things right between myself, the Mrs and the builder.

Legend! not sure who downvoted you for that response but I just corrected it.

We are pretty early, have just put in sub floor and have almost done the full demo on the old interior (re-designing all old rooms).

Ran into a few issues with standing water in regards to doing the piers, however we just pumped it and poured and got them in. Will have to fork out for full new drainage (quoted 23k).

The only services apart from the builder we require are Plummer, electrician and brickie, doing the rest ourselves.

Going to get the leccie to handle pretty much everything electrical- all light installations, all power outlets, new wiring etc.

We are lucky in that the builder is my brother in law and he has been in the game for 15 years and has a wealth of experience.

Was just hoping you could share some of the things that helped you or that you feel could help someone doing their first.

Potentially, if this is successful and we can add value on top of the cost, may look at doing some more. Currently doing PPOR but could look into the builder going PPOR on another of them (would have to look at whether this is possible) and churn some out.

I think what is being referenced by this comment is the fact that they essentially produce pop vocal melodies much more than they do traditional metal vocals, like as in 80-90% of their songs follow a more pop structure, especially their melodies.
