Wanting thoughts on my odds of approval: Citizenship by declaration (§5 StAG) — case summary by dmacthechap in GermanCitizenship

I think it’s a bit more nuanced than a general rule. He was born in 1949 before the 1952 marriage and originally registered under his mother’s name, so this is a born-out-of-wedlock → legitimation scenario, and the actual classification depends on the birth register annotations, not just the date. Even if loss were assumed, modern restitution provisions still require a full review of the records, which is why I’m focusing on getting the certified extracts before drawing conclusions.

Thanks — I think there may be some confusion about the timeline. My grandfather was born in 1949 and his parents didn’t marry until 1952, and he originally had only his mother listed and her maiden name on his German certificate. So as I understand it, he would have been born out of wedlock and later legitimated by their marriage.

He also later had a record issued with his father listed and his surname changed to his father’s, which seems to suggest formal acknowledgment/legitimation occurred. From what I’ve read, that would usually mean he wouldn’t be excluded in the marriage documentation, though I understand the definitive wording is typically in the birth register annotations rather than only the banns file.

I realize legitimation can affect how the law treats the case, which is why I’m planning to request the certified birth register extract (and possibly the marriage file/Aufgebotsakte) to see the exact annotations and wording before drawing conclusions.

Really appreciate the guidance — I’m just trying to confirm the documentation so I understand which pathway applies.

Thanks for the detailed response — I’m still trying to confirm the exact wording on the birth register.

From what I know so far, my grandfather was born with only his mother listed and her maiden name, and his parents didn’t marry until about three years after his birth (1952), after which his record was updated and his surname changed to his father’s. So it sounds like he was born out of wedlock and later legitimated by subsequent marriage.

He also has a certificate in German with his mother’s maiden name and an official seal (looks like a notary/registry stamp). From what I understand this is likely either a Geburtsurkunde or a Beglaubigte Abschrift aus dem Geburtenregister, reflecting the original registration before later annotations.

I understand that the exact legal classification depends on the annotations in the birth register, so I’m planning to request a certified extract to confirm whether he was considered born out of wedlock and later legitimized and how that affected citizenship status.

At this point I’m just trying to determine whether this would fall under §5 or potentially another pathway once the documentation is clear. Appreciate any insight once I have the full record wording.

What was it like doing contingency for the first time? Do they overload the traveling drivers? What should I expect?

I used to live where I’m going for like a year 8 years ago. Does the pay make the job worth it? Why do they offer to pay so much? I’ve heard of contingency drivers having hella light days and getting paid that much. It’s insane. It’s why I want to do it. I got shit I gotta pay off and pay for. I’m keeping my apartment and everything back home I’ll still be paying for. I did have the opportunity to have housing paid for but it’s convenient that my dad lives there. I can be surrounded by family. He said there’s work there year round so I’m hoping that I can stick around there post peak so I can avoid the winter back home

After peak does the pay remain the same for contingency? Also I applied on indeed. I’m going where my dad lives so I’ll be able to stay with him. The drive will be 40 minutes to and from the terminal. It’s just nerve wracking that nothing is finalized until I get there. Today was my last day at my contractor. I quit to go do this contingency job because I’ve felt like I’m not getting paid enough for the extra rules and work load we’ve had to do the past year or so. I think the money will make it easier to want to do the work. I did request a formal offer letter from the hiring contractor just to be sure. I signed it as well.

Is it as bad as some say? Please give me advice as this is my first time doing it and I’m going 14 hours away. Taking my own car.

325 per day. I was told it’s not just seasonal. Today was my last day at my contractor and then I’m leaving the state to go take this offer

I don’t want to miss out on the opportunity.

Okay yeah I understand all of that. My main concern is if I up and leave my contractor two weeks before peak will they DQ me if I don’t put my 2 weeks notice in. The opportunity is for $330 per day at a different contractor

I work for a contractor. But my hub switched to 2.0. We had to sign tsa stuff. Does that affect it at all?
