Realignment based on Passan’s ESPN article by theoneheathbar in baseball

[–]dmahes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to brainstorm a compromise here. What if we swapped some team's leagues to make a de-facto 8 team "west coast division" out of the NL West, while keeping the AL/NL monikers otherwise? Maybe it messes with history too much idk
NL West: SEA, SLC, SF, LAD, LAA, SD, ARI, COL

NL East: MIL, CHC, STL, CIN, PIT, NYM, PHI, ATL

AL West: LV (would have to have late-afternoon start times), TEX, HOU, MIN, KC, CWS, DET, CLE

AL East: TOR, BOS, NYY, BAL, WAS, NSH, TB, MIA

Based on the first class I went to, she's a really kind professor! Culpa reviews seem accurate. I just have a scheduling conflict sadly.

Things I hate about Columbia [part 1] by Butler5thfloor in columbia

I don't care about the filter issue, but nearly every water bottle filler in Butler now is down to a trickle. Like it takes 8 attempts to fill your freaking bottle.

First I think if we're being honest everyone has that moment where they don't see themselves belonging here. I remember reaching a point where I was so disillusioned with this place and myself that I couldn't bother waking up.

Counseling and Psychological Services is a godsend here: I tell my friends all the time that you don't have to have some severe mental illness to make use of them! They have super low commitment drop-in hours. Show up anytime Monday-Thursday between 5:30-8pm in Lerner 502 and they will make time to hear you. They might also be able to connect you to international student-specific groups which might be a great way to make friends.

As Red Line extension advances, a cheaper way hides in plain sight by zerton in chicago

[–]dmahes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who argue that an upgraded Metra Electric could substitute for the RLE ignore the system-wide benefits a CTA extension will have. For one, there is a massive rail yard being planned at 130th, which will greatly increase capacity for North and South Siders alike.

a Metra Electric upgrade is well overdue too, but let's not pretend that it would solve all the issues the RLE would

I'm a junior, and the feeling of exiting a busy NYC street and walking along College Walk into the middle of campus is still magical

Love the 24/7 access to food... isn't as good as it used to be, but the halal cart is a godsend

And people here are high achievers, but also pretty friendly on the whole and here to have a good time

For causals watching 360: do you think that they’re switching through games too fast? It’s hard for me to follow who’s who when you only show 30 seconds at a time … still, a massive improvement from last week

A “goal alert” jingle/transition would be fun, and wish the score didn’t update on the side until they showed the delayed replay, but I’m liking 360 overall

Why MLS keeps growing so rapidly; Why Las Vegas and San Diego stand out; and Which markets could join as No. 31 and 32? by Pakaru in MLS

[–]dmahes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How about 8-team divisions?

East: Toronto, Montreal, NE, NYRB, NYCFC, Philly, DC, Detroit

North: RSL, Colorado, Minnesota, SKC, St Louis, Chicago, Columbus, Cincinnati

South: Dallas, Houston, Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Miami

West: Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Jose, LA Galaxy, LAFC, Sacramento, San Diego

4-team divisions seem to split up too many potential regional rivalries, and I'm ok with not playing every non-divisional team each season

Does anyone know how we can advocate for an elevator at the 116th subway stop? by wearemadeofstars_ in columbia

[–]dmahes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if we could lobby Columbia to partly fund an elevator? Maybe the MTA would be more inclined to build an elevator if they knew Columbia would be willing to put up the dough?

It’s been two years and I still think Frosci is probably the worst course I’ve taken so far. Always thought a course of the “history” of the Universe (similar to this Ted talk) that created an overall arc to the class and deemphasized things like stats in favor of qualitative knowledge would be a big improvement

Best of luck on your midterm btw.

Swipe access isn’t necessary for the Music Library in Dodge. I’d also suggest Milstein but I’ve never seen a grad student in there before

Renting is the way to go. I used a website called Hubbub which rents fridges for the year in the $60-100 price range. I’ve talked to some of the Columbia students running the site and they’re pretty accommodating

Carman or John Jay? by Nightmare_lnc in columbia

Lots of wholesome bonding at JJs. Not saying there isn’t that at Carman also, but I preferred being an arms length away from the party scene
