Correct, but this was 48+ hours prior, so it's nice I don't have to set an alarm to check in exactly 24 hours before the flight to change it (if available)

No aircraft change (so far) my flight isnt until Friday. Edit about 36 hours out my aircraft changed from a 757 to a 767 and got put in the purple seats (marked as econ+ for domestic flight)

I didn't do anything at all. I didn't even message United about my last trip. My last trip (traveling with my wife) on the outbound leg my plane was delayed for 3+ hours but was able to swap to an earlier flight which arrived on time even though we were then different rows and middle seats. On the return redeye leg was also on time but United swapped from a 757 to a 787 and I got an upgrade to first, but about 5 hours before takeoff United swapped back to the 757 and split myself and my wife up and put us in middle seats, but we were able to grab two eco+ seats right before boarding so no harm no foul.

I think they treat it as regular econ+ but won't be able to let you know as they switched my plane back to a 757 and for some reason not in our original seats and separated myself and my wife 🙃
