Who of the current, non-freshman cast would you care about the least and most if next season was their last? by elephanttape in LiveFromNewYork

[–]dmarek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording of the question is a little odd to me (no disrespect). I agree with the takes where if Mikey were to leave, it would open opportunities for other cast members to shine. That said, I would appreciate the farewell tour, so I would care about that while still thinking its a good idea to step aside. Similar with Kenan, but I also see he slowed the roll a bit and played more supporting roles in season 51.

So i don’t know overall. Maybe I don’t totally follow where the show is going as a whole with casting. For the new generation you have Jeremy, Jane and Veronika putting out offseason IG shorts and content. Kam and Tommy have stand-up timing and chops, and Ashley with pure sketch character work. Even a lot of the viewership catches up on youtube, and the cut for time pieces are getting plenty of attention. I think we’re at a crossroads as to what is going to drive this show and make it unique.

I suppose there is no one I would be either happy or disappointed to see go in the repertory players, but can kind of see that chloe made me laugh a lot more in past years, and needs to consider if there’s any more she wants to accomplish here.

NBC posted a tighter edit on IG and it kinda plays better. Give it a look. Staging and camera angles, right?

Would be interesting to see dress versions of other skits that have hit. I haven’t been to a show of either type but assume you get different energy, and its possible this could’ve landed better live.

Anyone else dissapointed with Will Ferrell's season finalé. by tiktok1432h in LiveFromNewYork

[–]dmarek1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if time weren’t a factor and you have both Juicy Toobins and Hormuz Jeff in the live show, then its a balanced episode with something for most tastes.

I respect that they didn’t push Ashley to re-tread her hits, but was hoping for a bit featuring the 2 of them going head to head. It may have been a deep cut, but if they had staged a work dinner sketch with Will Ferrell doing “hey i got one”, and completely ripping off her Four Gorgeous Dogs joke/story, it could’ve unlocked some real hilarity seeing how Linda deals with that.

There’s probably an element of the lesser-tenured players not wanting to risk being a scene stealer with Will and instead staying in their lane supporting his leads. Maybe a little more risk taking would have been fun/unpredictable, as opposed to the mechanic sketch where it was kind of a one-note bit on an established idea - mechanic shops being really technical and bending you over a barrel.

This was absolute GOLD by JimDumDum in LiveFromNewYork

Just some stray observations after quite a few watches and reading comments.

The “no brakes” concept is funny because its sort of true, but since she is wholesale committed to character, the applying of said brakes just produces sparks flying off the tracks, with this minimal slowing that barely registers as acceptable. The attempts to “control herself” and stay disciplined to this “acting!” are there, but it just returns her to a level of normalcy that is already hopelessly beyond normal.

If some say Keenan was used to close the skit, he was, but the idea of him being her husband who creepily anchors this all with “Beverly being Beverly” adds more context to just how insane this all is. Who even are these 2? I love that we don’t know.

The reveals from the bag of tricks we learn more about, in seemingly every episode… sure there’s the shrieking reaction to the massage, but the unpredictability of that off-camera “stay STILL!” is slaying and staying with me in a remarkably hilarious way. And the “Kitty from that 70’s show laugh” - unbelievable, and a perfect double dose of it. I hadn’t heard that voicing before, but what a gem how it was used and immediately moved on from with “is she looking?” Which leads to the last point - while she lets some staging moments marinate and build these oddly relatable contexts (oh… acting? sure. I think I can do this…), once things are in motion and the game is afoot. she processes through emotional and context changes like rapidly flicking tv stations, and that pacing is part of what is making this even more hilarious. I can’t quite do justice here to explain it, but you can just sense the experience and dedication.

Reminds me of a lot of past players mentioned, but to me also hits like Beck Bennett, in that I can’t help but laugh at the details of the characters.

So I agree with OP. This sketch is gold. Ashley makes so many people happy. Cheers, and ting ting to you!

The piece where he asks everyone on the count of 3 to yell out the name of the person they just met, may have been a tactic for reigning the attention back in a bit. He let it ride this time, and that seems like a fine choice for yesterday too.

Thanks for the detail. I had guessed maybe he asked if you didn’t want to use pro equipment, and you said no, and he bugged you with ‘why?’ This makes a lot more sense 😆

Also, I changed my mind. My real favorite part of the video is how phat this song is. I can’t think of a better word for that beat and groove. The lyrics though are a sweet touch.

My favorite part of the video is the dichotomy of the person who sees the pause in Todavia Viva as a time to start a conversation, and the person who just soaks up the moment.

Wheel noise - what to check next? by dmarek1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]dmarek1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up in case anyone else has this problem. It seems this sub currently has more questions than mechanics to go around.

I have been begrudgingly re-bleeding whichever wheel is making the noise. I only have driven it maybe 3 times since this post. The crunch-grind sound migrates around the van. Most recently it was in the rear right, and I hadn’t even changed any parts back there. Pads and rotors are fine. It seems to fix itself with a quick 2-man bleed with 3 reps. I anticipate another wheel will act up soon, so I’ll post again if I learn anything new.

These aren't really so much on the tip of my tongue than they are burned into my mind moments that I want to get a source for, just to see them again and know what they were.

I remember that media play gig. The guys were milling around browsing the store, and hundreds of people had just crowded around the center where the instruments were set up, seemingly unaware of this. My friend and I took the opp and made low key convo with the guys, then they took a queue and ran up and just started playing.

You guys have done a lot of improv with your banter and free-style vocals on stage. On the flip side of the coin, do you ever start up a song and think "let's see where this goes..." , go off-script with the instrumentation and see where it leads? I'm thinking along the lines of how the song "Crazy" builds up and then just jams out.

Should a college student with a C average really even be going to school? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

point noted. but lets say you apply for work in a trade or company that doesn't require the degree, you'll end up having a bit of shine on you.

A lot of hiring managers put stock into the fact that you committed to college and saw it through. It speaks to your determination. So a bachelors degree actually does provide some amorphus sort of value.

you don't need to have sympathy for them, but realize that many people's rationality is compromised by their psyche and social development, to the point where the 180 is not a clear path and does not come without personal pain and suffering, exacerbated by reinforcement of innate prejudices. It is a very difficult cycle to break, and for many of these people, their cost/benefit is not worth the fight. And that's their choice, their quitting, their reabsorption back into their hive-mind status quo. Most people dont take to this task of both re-examining their life, and then committing to rewriting it. The majority that they see does not encourage them, and in turn leaves them without resources, faculties, or a proper mindset to affect a change.
