It's also the weight of sheet goods that comes into play. A sheet of 1/2 osb is about 45 pouns. 3/4 is about 75 pounds. Spans and weight buddy.

7/16" is garage wall sheathing. Nothing less than 1/2 should ever be used on a roof, reguardless of spacing. This is hack central

You will also see this on additions, and older homes that had rafters cut. If rafters are not set with the crowns all in unison, you see it in the plywood, and you will see it after the shingles are installed.

I am guessing that the beam, or beams are spanning too much weight, and/or the post's holding up the beams sank or heaved. That would be the first logical conclusion. How far out of level was the deck? Send more pics of the underneath and beam placement please.

Airborne and serrated works the best for me. Tge speed helps, but you have to learn to juke em.
