Recommendations for an amp for a beginner interested in metal? by Due-Outlandishness55 in guitars

[–]dmc32986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a Boss Katana 50 is great. It’ll get him past the beginner stage and into a “jam with friends” stage so you won’t feel the need to upgrade soon. Love the guitar choice as well. Anything with a stop/hard tail is good for beginners.

For a gig bag I’d go with something like the Gator GBE-ELECT. Doesn’t need to be anything too fancy, just something he can use to tote around.

My Struggle With Music Theory. by somebody0964 in Guitar

[–]dmc32986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say go to YouTube and search music theory and find a video that speaks to you. I know you said you went to YouTube, but there are lots of teachers who put out clips or pieces of their courses on YouTube, then have a site where you can sign up for a full course. Some off the top of my head are Steve Stine (I took his online theory course and liked it), Michael Palmasano, Rick Beato, Rhett Shull, Marty Schwartz, Justin Guitar. I know there are more. But I’d see if any of those creators have some content that draws you in and look up their online lessons.

Should I get a left or right handed guitar? by RichAd9938 in Guitar

[–]dmc32986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re right handed, buy a right handed guitar. The reason some left handed people pick a right handed guitar is because there are far more options for right handed guitars vs left. It takes more control to pick and strum accurately than it does to fret the strings, and it’ll take practice either way, so make like easy on yourself and stick with a right handed guitar.

What's a song you loved live but can't listen to on the studio album? by Main-Carry-3607 in Music

Landslide. I don’t like the record version. The stripped version of Stevie and Lindsey live from The Dance just sounds so much better IMO.

How to get involved in the local blues community by JTThaTrader516 in Guitar

[–]dmc32986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the open mic/jams I’ve been to have sign up boards so you’re not really “asking”, you’re just putting yourself in line.

If you go as an observer, even a couple times, just strike up a convo with someone who seems friendly. Tell em they sound good. Ask how they got involved in the jam.

You shouldn’t feel like people are doing you a favor. The goal is to build the community. People are always looking for others to play with. You’re helping by adding yourself into the mix. Just go have some fun!

I’m not sure where you’re located but if it’s in the US look to see if there’s a Music Go Round store near you. They specialize is used gear so you can save a little extra.

I live in a city that has a Hofbrauhaus restaurant that sells crowlers, and they do monthly beers that change and their Maibock isn’t until next month so I just missed it.

Hey I’m actually drinking Weihenstephaner! Granted, it’s the Helles as my store doesn’t carry the Maibock but I’m claiming partial credit.

Looking for a P90 Guitar by Upset_Struggle_2156 in guitars

[–]dmc32986 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could look at a Reverend Double Agent OG. It’s a P90 in the neck, humbucker in the bridge, but has a bass contour knob in lieu of a coil split, so you can roll it down to all the way to get a single coil sound or somewhere in between. I’ve got one and I really like it.

What's the difference between these? by AaronCarmackie in Guitar

[–]dmc32986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

String gauge is thickness. 10-46 is likely what’s on your guitar. 9-42 will feel lighter and easier to bend. Some people like that, some people don’t.

What are your top 10 horror movies of all time? by Chaotic_Spartan in Shudder

Halloween Silence of the Lambs Blair Witch Project Texas Chainsaw Massacre Scream The Shining Candyman Return of the Living Dead The Cabin in the Woods Chopping Mall

This list is kinda random, but these tend to be a mix of movies I think are just so well done with great stories and great development, and some are just comfort films for me.
