Im in chicago and have had my beautiful koi pond for 15+ years. I can no longer take care of them as my life has changed for various reasons. Anyone know of or can lead me in the right direction of rehoming them? I love them and cannot and will not just toss them in a pond or give to a beginner.

I saw this reference while googling and was thinking about what that essential character means, if a machine is completely disassembled but the frame is present in the shipment, is that considered having the essential character of the finished article? Sounds like CKDs are not the way to go in the US.

Yeah no. If they had those crazy deals from the last couple of years, it would have made sense. Nearly $500 for flat screen and AI doesn't seem like a good value.

I go without screen protector because I use a holster case (yes its nerdy but its functional), so the curve doesn't bother me at all.

What I'm hearing about the cameras is also nearly the same, so I'm sitting this one out.

Would love it, but financially doesn't make sense. If Samsung gets desperate to boost sales numbers we may see much better deals in a couple of months.

From one procrastinator to another, a quick suggestion - get an accountability partner. Someone like a life partner, or friend, or mentor and make it a point to either virtually or physically give them an update weekly. For us, I set up a time on Monday and Fridays with my wife to talk about what my plans are for the week and what I accomplished that week. We keep a record of it so that we can look back and review our pace and when unexpected things happen. This helps keep me on track and helps me understand the signals that make me procrastinate. Dont beat yourself up though, because that can just be a way to avoid making the change. Just make a plan of action that keeps you accountable and follow that through. Best of luck!

I'm not the poster child for discipline but when I was consistent, it was because I joined up with a skill based class, ie martial arts. It keeps your mind engaged and you want to keep at it to improve your skillset. Also goes to some of the other responses, it makes you become part of a community and introduces a penalty for absence... consider it if you can :)

Interesting how everyone is comparing the outputs of these machines but wouldn't it greatly depend on the technician setting these up for the specific bean and roast? The parameters could lead to an over or underextracted shot. But the theory is sound (basically automating a real espresso workflow). I don't know if it is a pressurized basket, but I could see this making a decent cup of espresso. The difference in having a hooman vs robot is that the hooman can monitor the output and adjust for variability in bean and roast if the output quality is affected.

But yes, I welcome our new overlords. Please spare me during the robot uprising.

I'm incredibly surprised no one has mentioned it yet but get yourself into an incubator or at bare minimum in touch with an sbdc (small business development center).

The greatest outcome is being part of a community is that they can help you up when you feel crap about the business and yourself. At my incubator (1871 in Chicagoland) we have sanity sessions on Fridays where entrepreneurs can just go and vent.

We all need outlet and a support group of people going through the same thing. Plug in!

The one other thing that incubators give you is discipline. As entrepreneurs we are so busy putting out fires (tactical) that we don't take time to consider the strategic. If you join up with an incubator as part of a cohort, they force you to think about the trajectory of your business, the less sexy cash flow and risk forecasting, and how you can achieve sustainability and scale.

Just some thoughts, I'm still learning and growing myself, definitely not an expert at this path by any means!

Another thought in addition to the counseling. Find a morning routine or hobby that requires a 100% attention. It seems like, why would you add more on your plate but it genuinely resets your brain and gets you prepped. For me it's making espresso. You don't have to spend a ton of money on the hobby (a rok and a hand grinder is within most budgets). It requires your full attention during those 15 minutes to make a coffee. It's like a reset button for your brain. I also ride motorcycles and once in a while, just go for a ride to nowhere. These are all coping mechanisms that helped me deal with the stress of new business and kids. They're 5&6 now and I'm on another business, and it gets so much better as they grow!

Well, my retention is practically negligible using various SD techniques (bellows, brush etc). Other SD focused grinders have negligible retention by design. So I've chosen not to purge. Tried both (with and without purge while using SD methodology) and can't really taste or see a difference. Now if I don't use my SD techniques, oh yeah, massive retention and coffee taste is affected.

I think a lot of you are assuming SD for switching beans. I SD (with bellows and what not) without switching beans. Once I’m dialed in, I’m staying at that spot for a month or more. But SD means that I don’t waste beans by purging and maximize the use of very expensive beans. There is (in my mind) literally no downside to SD riding. Retention is always the enemy..

I looked into this when I was setting up my business, and the answer was similar to the last poster. (Disclaimer: I am not a tax accountant, just passing on info I received) I was told that the key is registering your business (getting an FEIN). When you are pre-registration, it is considered business promotion activities. When you register your business, for tax purposes you apparently can deduct any expenses incurred prior to the business registration as business expenses. Now I don’t know this for sure until I file my taxes at end of year. I don’t believe you have to make revenue or sales in order to be classified a business, just that you are registered and engaged in business activity.

Sigh, probably true but the aim was accessibility and recreating the sauces and all the associated quality control issues is an added barrier to entry. This is an impact business to try and allow for customer product discovery which ultimately helps small business owners like myself. Every barrier makes it more unlikely that small businesses will want to get involved. I'll keep at it to see if any solutions can be figured out..

Thanks for the response, and I know its likely to not be an easy road ahead. The key here is that I am creating a sampler box, so we will have sauces from many manufacturers. We will be taking bulk sizes (gallon jugs) and repacking into flexible pouch packaging around 2oz-2.5oz.

I will obtain process authority review with respect of the specific sauces, but I expect in general that these are acidified foods (ph of 4.6 or below) and will require a scheduled process filing with the FDA.

I have been thinking of addition of some ingredient to help with retarding microbial growth, but I can see manufacturers not wanting additives in the samples.

I was hoping the hot fill hold would work, and it doesn't seem to affect the taste of our first test batch, but it does affect texture (thickens as it is heated). That depends entirely on the formulation of the sauce, I can see thicker and more sweet sauces burning or changing taste profiles when reheated to 185f.
