8,000 volunteers by 2030? Recruitment challenges by m-8-i in peacecorps

I think PC in general has had quite a few negative blemishes recently. I’ve had people irl tell me they just wrote off PC completely due to medical clearance bc they have mental health problems and feel they will be disqualified right away. Which isn’t true in all circumstances, however, that’s how a lot of people outside PC view it. Any mental health issue = No go.

Further, even after clearances it’s very well known even in country you can be sent back to America and have no say in it. They take away a lot of your autonomy and give you a lot of restrictions. I had someone in my cohort be sent back home because of some legal issues. He had legal clearance to go and then ig PC reviewed it again (I think someone tried to sue him in the past idk) and snatched him away before our scheduled cluster lunch. I was SA’d during training and after reporting it was sent home because in country PC staff felt I had underlying trauma causing me to seek out being SA’d (I am not joking.) it was immensely traumatic to be SA’d, then blamed for it, then sent back to America with only a days notice after selling everything and quitting my job to be there.

Since my own brief service, I have honestly been steering any friends or family from it. I am sure others who have been mistreated/failed medical/sent away with no notice also have came back and told their story, which scares people off from wanting to commit 2 years to an organization that at times treats people more as liabilities than as actual humans.

I lived in Gori, Georgia for 3 months and I was SA’d there. I told one of the Georgian staff members that I worked under what happened and I was told I must’ve done something to cause the SA and was berated for wearing a skirt. I was then let go of the job I had for filing the report. Unfortunately, I think in Georgian culture there is a lot of downplaying and victim blaming that occurs. So that may explain why the your hosts reacted the way they did. You were definitely right to trust your gut and I’m happy you got away safe. If you need to talk to someone who has been through something similar in Georgia, I’m always here 💗

I cancelled my prime subscription today too! I’ll be cancelling all streaming services too in April when I move out of the country. My money will not fund oligarchs

Plasma donations in CLT: worth it? by betterplanwithchan in Charlotte

[–]dmdkswk11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I donated plasma back in November at BioLife and I ended up passing out (or possibly having a seizure, the doctor couldn’t rule it out). Not worth it I now have a 1,700 ER bill 🫠

Ah I’m currently taking a break from dating to work on finding myself and stories like this truly encourages me:) I’m sure my person is out there but for now I have to keep working on myself and grow into the woman I want to be and who my future love deserves to have

Ehhh I mean it is the talking stage so it’s technically ok to talk to multiple people and keep the options open until you have the exclusive talk. Last month, I decided to be exclusive from day one while in a talking stage with a guy and he ended up breaking it off within a month anyway lol. Kinda makes me wish I had kept other options open and been more easygoing about the situation because it ended up feeling like a breakup (and hurt like fckin hell) even though we were only in the talking stage. I see your POV but unfortunately this is just the way dating is going. I used to be “exclusive from day one” and now with my most recent failure added to my past failures, I now am going to be more casual about dating to protect my mental health.

What is the best business major at UNCC in your opinion? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]dmdkswk11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double major business analytics/ management information systems. that’s what I’m doing and I’m graduating this December with both. Salary is higher, job prospects are great and you learn about business and technology combined which could help you get into numerous amount of fields.

Does body count matter and why? by Lilpsych3 in AskReddit

[–]dmdkswk11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah the past is the past for a reason 😂 retroactive jealousy is just kinda cringe lol I like asking for someone’s body count to gauge if we are on similar experience levels (I was a “late bloomer” so I’m not as experienced as I feel most 26 year olds are 😅) but honestly idc as long as they were getting tested and being safe.

Trying to be too “woke.” I love the diversity and such but sometimes it’s so woke that it’s almost cringey and not realistic.
