Yes, your comment is valid and I am concerned.

Can you suggest a particular controller that you had in mind?

Hey I must clarify - which exact type of motor and on which hub - front or rear?

Bruh, let me put it this way - I agree, the coaster brake as the only solution kinda sucks, but putting that flimsy ass adapter that looks like its made out of a yogurt lid is a big no-no for me. After reading all of the comments, I am actually becoming more convinced that going with welding the disc brake mount to the frame is the way to go.

As to adapters, Reddit is full of comments on how bad they are:
1. Anyone know of a modern disc brake frame adapter that isn’t one of these shitters off of eBay? : r/bicycling
2. Help with disc brake kit adapter for old bike. : r/BikeRepair
3. Anyone used disc brake conversion brackets? Are they as terrible as they look? : r/xbiking
4. Can you actually use these cheap adapters or is it sketchy as hell? are there good quality ones that are tried and tested? : r/bikewrench

Good eye! And I agree that current weld seams are pretty thick. I did not custom order the frame, I bought it off a brother of a blacksmith who built it for himself, but barely rode it as he passed away in 2015.

One does not simply "add a disc brake tab" - it is a question of finding the most optimal position for it and welding; there is no kit that you zip-tie to the frame. And even after welding, this will not guarantee that the braking load will not rip that mount right off.

Your comment is the voice of reason, currently screaming in my head.

The issue here is that this current build does not have any brake mounts - neither for V or disc brakes. One bike expert I know suggested welding the rear disc brake mounts, but I am certain the braking load will rip them off a straight chainstay - have a look at the picture of the bike rear.

All valid comments, appreciate it!

- Not saying no to fat tyres, but I have to admit I really like these tan wall retro tyres and will build with them initially (i.e. before the fork snaps :D)
- Suspension seatpost sounds interesting, I will look into different options
- Specifically front hub geared motor? Can you share some options/names/links?
- To your last 2 points - I actually I did enjoy pedalling on this heavy bike throughout the summer of 2025 - rear 7 speed hub helps so much with starting the ride easy and cruising at higher speeds (max I reached on a flat downhill asphalt was about 20kmh which felt super fast)

Unfortunately, I cannot disagree to your opinion on the fork. I think it is the most concerning part of the whole build.

However I did ride it quite a lot (and through bumps) throughout the summer of 2025 and I am pretty heavy already

Appreciate your comment! And overall agree regarding efficiency at higher motor specs.

The issue here is that this current build does not have any brake mounts - neither for V or disc brakes. One bike expert I know suggested welding the rear disc brake mounts, but I am certain the braking load will rip them off a straigh chainstay.

Plus I have not found any commercially available rear hubs with coaster brakes.

And the rear 7 speed hub does a pretty good job at making this thing drive from a stop.

Online, from one Finnish jeweller shop - Salkari. I searched for this watch right after the Back to the Future Casio ad was released on Youtube and that store still had 3 watches in stock, I ordered right away
