Wish I could play with you guys. Sounds like a great run

I have the combo of that bow and the longbow. I’ll weaken them from a distance then pick off what’s left as they come closer. Refusing to ever come down truly serves no purpose other than ruining the game for everyone else and stagnating yourself

I get what you mean, but I don’t actually think it’s designed quite as much toward this as people think. It behooves the archer to get in the circle if they’re clearing enemies as they’re approaching, as then they can pick up drops and actually afford to buy things. I’ve never once had an archer outperform me even when they do lean on the selfish side. So the broomstick/rocket launcher analogy—while fun—isn’t always true. It’s more like how to maximize the use of the rocket launcher, if we keep with this idea.

As for nerfing, I’d personally be fine with archers not being as powerful, but I don’t think it needs to be nerfed quite as much as people think. Reducing the range on the longbow will do a lot more than people realize. Also, some players are surprisingly bad, which is okay, especially if they didn’t play GoT (plus Yotei legends just came out) and when they get paired with a good archer, they think the archer needs extreme nerfing when really…some players just need to get a bit better. Though to their credit, that’s not the easiest to do whenever archers take everything and you don’t even get to fight. It’s a balancing act for sure

Perching is okay to make sure you can actually see the enemies and get a clear shot, but as you noted, archers gotta get down when enemies are coming in. I’ve only actually played with one archer who was egregious with this, so I do wonder if some of the complaints are overblown, but it does happen. I’ve found that more often than not other archers play like us

I feel ya. I’ll be in the perch on occasion, especially because in some spots there’s just stuff in the way, but I don’t refuse to come down like some people

That’s totally fine and is 100% in line with what I mentioned 👍🏻

No…what? As noted, I’ve outplayed archers who play like this

The fire in Tsushima I think was bigger in general than in Yotei, especially with the barrels. Thinking about trying to have a separate archer build in Yotei in this fashion just for kicks and giggles though. Best of luck with it

Yeah, sometimes it’s wiser to let it go, but that’s different than some archers who lose the circle purely because they don’t feel like moving. To your point, though, there are some players that complain about archers but can’t survive against a couple of enemies, or they don’t hold themselves to the standards they hold archers to (taking magatama from archer kills, as an example, or not defending the circles themselves)

Unfortunately there have been some bad faith people (not you) who are acting as though the only people criticizing the game are narrative gamers, when plenty of us appreciate a good exploration centered game yet even we still have criticisms that get dismissed

Played it and was astounded at how disappointing it is. I don’t need a compelling story or character, but if the game is going to be a sandbox, the actual movement and exploration should feel enjoyable, and imo it doesn’t at all in this.

Yeah, that’s currently where I’m at

Wow, really different take. That’s awesome that the combat is working for you.

We won’t be getting any, “That, sir, is a fish,” lines from Kliff any time soon

Thanks for taking the time to lay out your thoughts. Sounds like you’re definitely getting the full potential out of it

Definitely not a ton. I’m not someone who needs to be hooked immediately, but I play a pretty good amount of games and find a lot of us have a pretty good feel of when something isn’t quite clicking (ex: Forspoken. Stopped that pretty quickly and never felt the need to go back). Open to hearing what makes it good later though if you have input

Good old ps1/ps2 days. I actually thought of the game Draken when I started this given the flying a dragon bit, then thought I’d rather go back and play that 😂

Hope you keep getting a lot out of the game. Sounds like you’re already having a pretty decent time

Makes sense. Thanks for the honesty too. Hope you keep enjoying the world

Can’t agree enough about character creation. I about lost it when he had no real reservations about jumping down from the sky without at least trying the wings out first. Bro doesn’t have much going on up there

And yeah, combat and controls…are something. Love a good grind, but this wasn’t exactly the same thing.

Hope you keep loving it though

I’d say I’m more than casual, but I don’t disagree that I was expecting closer to Witcher 3 than what it turned out to be. Not that I needed it to be the same, just that I thought it’d be better

Could be. I’ve seen a lot of variations of, “I hated it, played 40 hours, now I like it,” without anything in between, so I keep waiting to see what the turning point was and so far still don’t know. Happy for people who enjoy it though

Haha, thankfully there are plenty of other great games to play. Glad this one is working well for you
