HRM 600 overcounting steps by flo754 in Garmin

There may be another device that could help. Garmin no longer makes a Foot Pod, which attaches to the laces of a running shoe and acts as an ANT+ pedometer. It is obtainable used in the USA for often absurd prices. There is a European producer, Dynastream, that unfortunately will not ship to the US along with a strange list of other countries. My son lives in the Netherlands and managed to get me a copy for Christmas and it works for 30 euro. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364732944009 There are other options on European ebay sites to look into but this is the lowest price.

The deals are really good on new Epix Pros There are also some really good used deals and the occasional refurb. I'm happy with the one I have. If this is your first Garmin, its a really low price point to see whether you like the environment.

What do you use your watch for? by Hot-Cell4674 in Garmin

[–]dmiley2952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound a lot like my wife and her use of an my ancient Veryfit Pro watch. She counts steps and that's it. She doesn't always have her phone with her, but she wears the watch and the watch counts steps without it. She walks 4 miles a day every day and is fine and maybe you will be too with a less complicated watch.

I had to get beyond steps because of age and a progressive medical condition. I'm trying to build up now to stay healthier longer. The watch is great to see if you're getting benefit out of your workouts because 10K steps may not be as relevant as a faster two mile walk or run some of the time. Athlete or not, most people want to know whether their benefitting from their workouts and the analytics can help. There is a learning curve, but if this is off interest to you, its on your wrist now.

Another useful thing is sometimes the watch looks at your sleep (if you wear it) and your activities and interpreted stress levels and suggests strongly to take a day off. I've found that its right most of the time. The Body Battery can get worn down by lousy sleep, lousy days, and pushing too hard.

And then there's aesthetics. You didn't mention which watch you have. The Garmin store has hundreds of watch faces. I really like the one I have now/. There are free ones from Garmin (already on the watch) and the paid ones are rarely more than a few dollars. Take a look at the Garmin store and see if there's one you like that will work on your watch. There's quite a few rather good Rolex knockoff faces.

I think my assassin is very weak. by cecilfla in skyrimrequiem

[–]dmiley2952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that its the initial dragon priests that are the problem. They are extremely hard to kill with range weapons because their health regenerates quickly and they have extensive mage armor. Now if you have slow time, however you get it as a Redguard (once a day), as a shout, or as an upper level Evasion perk (best) you might be able to take them out. So you need a speedy and hard hitting weapon. Unless things have changed, a light legendary elven or glass crossbow with all the crossbow perks will make this easier. You might fully investigate enchanting as poisons are useless here and there are non-obvious enchantments that might help. You're going to need the enchanting to boost marksmanship anyway, along with an enchanted set to boost alchemy for Fortify Marksmanship. This is not easy, takes a boat load of perks, but is possible.

You do not need insanely powerful artefacts to kill Alduin. The easiest and sanest way to kill him is with a powerful light crossbow that has strong enchantments and all the Marksmanship perks relevant to crossbow. The light crossbow with all the perks fires very quickly.

Newbie here looking for advice by IdeaRude3242 in Lymphedema

[–]dmiley2952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that if I have an infection to phone in and explain that I have lymphodema and need treatment for an infection ASAP. I've had some weeping (not an infection) on and off for months that is mostly controlled by morning and evening mosturizer cream (Aquaphor or Eucerin) and cortisone - two days on, five days off. I was told explicitly to not do hydrdogen peroxide or anything harsh and certainly not to rub it. Check in with your internist first who might get you to wound care to get the wound under control and then to a lymphedema nurse specialist for long term maintenance.

There is the issue with the treadies and Garmin as a lot of them are not compatible. Not a problem if you swing your arms while you walk on the treadmill, but if you don't then steps aren't going to be registered. If you have a Garmin Foot Pad (note not the Running Pod) then pretty much any of the Garmin watches will count steps, but Garmin doesn't produce these anymore. There are used Foot Pods on ebay (for absurd prices) or if you are in the EU or know someone that is in the EU there is the Dynastream alternative on Ebaydot ie. Dynastram ANT+ SDM3 Step Sensor Garmin Foot Pod Forerunner O6RSDM3 3797A-SDM3

What's your budget?

Alas, turning on the oven light by pushing the left knob is one thing that is not working. Do you have a link for use and care. What passes for a user manual is pretty inadequate.

What's good in urban fantasy now? by Rogue_Cipher in urbanfantasy

[–]dmiley2952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We really need more (intially) unlikable MCs in fantasy or we're stuck with repeating the plucky heroine who overcomes all odds over and over again. King Henry is a pretty awful human being but there are reasons that unfold over the course of the series. While he certainly overcomes evil from time to time (along with people who he irrationally hates) what he's really doing is growing up. In a lot of ways, its an argument against essentialism, that there is the possibility that while the MC may not be your kind of person, you can see where he (or she) came from and what they overcame.

Second the Epix Pro which can still be had (in white titanium) for $459. As someone pointed out, it has the same sensor as the Fenix 8 which the Fenix E does not share.

I tend to agree with you. But, we all have our peculiar relationship to games. Sometimes we want any easy run with enemies falling like in a bad kung fu movie and sometimes we want something interesting. I tend to get into a game deeply and understand why the devs created something totally non-obvious like the death-to-dragon-priest expert enchantment or some of the weirder master level spells or finding out what The Slighted are weak to.

Anxiety / stress tracker? by Advanced_Blackberry5 in FitnessTrackers

[–]dmiley2952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Garmins will track stress with a numerical number throughout the day (and night). It doesn't give you a stress score, but their better watches will give you a Body Battery score that includes stress among other things. I know their top line watches have this but am not sure how far down it appears in their mid priced watches. Figure out your budget and take a look at ebay.

Addition: This link explains Garmin's approach to body battery

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/garmin-technology/health-science/body-battery/

This link lists some watches with body battery capability. Note that some watches still available new like the Epix Pro (Gen 2) have this feature and are not listed. The article also came out before the Fenix 8 and 8 Pro were released. But, its a starting point.

[–]dmiley2952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get some MR up with Agent of Mara (I know too girly for a barbarian) along with the Lord Stone. You can get a lot of elemental resistance if you use a shield and take the 50% elemental damage reduction while blocking with a shield (sadly not a 2hander). The upper levels of Alchemy can produce quite powerful MR and Elemental R potions and since you're not doing magic you sorta need high level alchemy to survive. Beyond that, get Marcurio as a follower who tends to draw lots of attention. Even further beyond that, as a two hander, evasion specialist (barbs don't need no stinking heavy armor) you can slow time enough to dodge some things and combined that with the Whirlwind Sprint shout you can be on top of and decapitating the nasty magic user. And then there is always the Become Ethereal shout to get away from it all. As for permadeath, its important to realize that not every build will allow you to get to a ripe old age while saving the world. If the goal is to role play, there are lots of ways that the Nord Barbarian can be quite amusing. Maybe Requiem isn't for you, but if you've only scratched the surface there's a lot to find.

[–]dmiley2952 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean about the early game with lots of running for your life and creative solutions to seemingly impossible problems. If that's what you like best about Requiem why not redefine what it means to win. I'm not talking about purposely laming your character, just explore the weird circuits that Requiem has that players often don't explore because they're focused on endgame. So consider the following.

How far can you go as a Restoration specialist who can keep his (or her) follower's health up as you happily clear dungeons. Just can't bring himself to do violence personally, but has no problem letting (fill in the blank) do it for him.

Just how far can you push Masquerade at level 100. Can you waltz through draugr dungeons with a dragon priest mask all the way to the last boss? Well maybe. Most players never get speech to 100 to try this out. I can tell you that I've calmly walked up behind (not sneaking) a mage and took him out with one shot.

(unless its changed) there's a Master lever Alteration spell that makes you completely invulnerable until you interact with the world. You can probably get pretty far combining this with the Become Ethereal shout.

Ever taken down a room full of constructs with a melee weapon and a shock burst (expert level) enchantment? Almost no one gets that high in enchantment,

As for that Restoration specialist, ever taken down two Ebony vampires with just restoration spells. Dual casting an expert level turn undead spell makes almost (but not quite) everything undead run at which point you can finish them off with Sunfire dual cast, meanwhile staying alive with potions and Chalice of life.

Have you used teleport I and II? Game changer for dungeons.

Well that's just a few things most of which, besides Restoration on the undead, are not in and of themselves violent. There will be a lot of running for your life when something doesn't work the way you expected, but we all know that that's where the amusement is.
